Once the ship had broken through the parking lot, we lowered the ship down. We could not get too close, but we lowered it down until the ladder almost touched the ground. I threw the ladder down, telling Leo how much father we needed to go before everyone began heading down.
After mostly everyone had gown down, I started down the ladder nervous for what was below.
"Annabeth!" Percy shouted, drawing my attention to my injured friend. I felt my eyes become watery, but I felt so happy at the same time that she was okay.
"Here," a sob escaped from her mouth as we both ran over to her. As soon as we got to her, Percy grabbed her hand and buried her face in his chest sobbing.
"It's okay," he said, "We're together now,"
"Your leg?" Piper questioned, pointing to her leg. I noticed that it was wrapped in, what was that...bubble wrap. It was bubble wrap.
"What happened to you down here?" I asked as she started explaining what had happened to her.
"gods of Olympus, you did all of that with a broken ankle," Jason spoke from behind Piper.
"Well...some of it with the broken ankle,' Annabeth said, her eyes no longer tear-filled. Everyone started talking to each other, but I zoned out thinking about what it would have felt like going through all of that alone.
As I stood there, I felt a warm hand intertwine with mine. I looked up, meeting the warm eyes of Leo as he offered a smile. "It will be okay now. We are all together," he whispered in my ears, sending chills through my spin.
"Secure it!" Annabeth shouted, causing me to look back at the ground. The shaking of the ground had caused the Athena Parthenon to start tilting.
"Zang, get me to the helm, quick!" Leo shouted.
"Back for you guys in a second," Jason said as he grabbed Piper flying into the air.
"The floor won't last," Hazel said, "The rest of us should get to the ladder."
I nodded as we started for the ladder. I heard a gasp from behind me, causing me to turn seeing Annabeth with her mouth wide open as if she were screaming. I watched her try and take a step forward, but instead, her leg was swept out from under her. She was being pulled back by something around her foot.
"Cut it, cut it!" Hazel called as I started moving for Annabeth.
My feet began moving on their own as I was running towards Annabeth and Percy. I watched as they grew closer to the edge until they had both gone over the edge. I felt a scream escape my mouth as I ran closer to the rim looking over.
I saw one of Percy's hand holding onto a ledge while the other held Annabeth's hand.
As I looked over, I felt a chill in the air as I looked beside me, finding Nico. He had joined our quest halfway through but had his own job to do, but while he was with us, I got to know him as he became another friend of mine.
"The other side, Nico and Angel. We will see you there, understand."
My eyes widened as Nico stuttered out "But-"
"Lead them there!" Percy shouted directly to Nico, "Promise me!"
"I-I will," Nico said, his voice cracking.
Percy looked at me, his eyes watery as he looked down at Annabeth. His eyes meet mine again as I felt tears falling from my eyes.
"I love you, Angel, please be safe." He said before letting go.
I screamed out as I watched them both disappear into the pit. I felt someone pull me back and into their chest. I knew that it was Nico, but I could not seem to hug him back or stop my crying. I continued to cry as I thought about what would happen to them, would I ever see them again? As I sat there, I felt someone pull me away and into their arms, and by the warmth, I felt myself cry harder as I cried into Leo's chest. I wrapped my arms around him as my screams slowly dissipated.
"We have to go." He spoke in my ear.
"O-okay," I choked out.
The ground around us rumbled as we began moving. It started breaking as we staring, moving faster to get away from the falling gound. I felt Leo's grip tighten as we walked, but the ground I stood on broke, causing me to trip and start falling.
"Leo!" I called out, afraid of falling too.
"Angel!" He called as I fell. He grabbed my hand with both of his as he was the only thing keeping me from falling.
I looked up at his seeing the struggle in his eyes as I knew he was struggling to pull me up. I knew that he could not fall into the pit. He was the only one who could run the ship. I looked down at the hole below me before looking back to Leo with fresh tears in my eyes.
"You have to let go, or you will fall in too."
"No, I'm not letting go. Someone will come and help, just hold on."
"You have to let go, I promise I will see you again." tears rolling down my cheeks.
"No," he said, tears falling from his eyes. I felt one land on my cheek.
"Goodbye, Leo. We will see each other again." I said, letting go of his hand. I could feel his grip tighten, but it was no use I had already begun slipping out of his grasp.
I looked down into the pit as all I could see was darkness. There was no light, nothing. I looked away and back to Leo as I wondered if I would survive after falling. I smiled as the last bit of my hand was slipping out of his. I was afraid to leave him but knew that he could not pull me up or fall with me.
"I love you," I told him I fell.
