The life of a Marine. If you're not killing someone or eating something, you're training. Unfortunately for me, our squad wasn't chosen for patrol and we ate an hour ago, so we were training. Suddenly Baker came up to me. The guy was British, but it's not like you could tell by appearance alone. Guy looked like the most American person alive.
"Oi, Command wants to see us. Something bout selection."
I shrugged. What could be the worst that would happen?
A short timeskip later
"Sir, what do you mean by we're getting a transfer to a different unit? And why is it in Hereford?"
Baker went cold. Now I was interested.
Baker: Any idea what unit we're being transferred to, sir?
Colonel Parker shook his head.
Parker: Private, I'm just the messenger. Sergeant Jackson, are you willing to go?
I nodded my head. It's not like I had many friends anyway. Baker sighed, then nodded.
"We'll go, sir. When do we leave?"
The colonel passed us a folder. It had one word on it. Rainbow. I opened mine up. In it was a letter addressed to me.
Sergeant Cole 'Renegade' Jackson, you have been selected along with Private Alex 'Thunder' Baker to join Rainbow Six. Rainbow is an elite counterterrorism force funded by the UN and has operators from all over the world. Here at Rainbow, we have state of the art training facilities, dorms, and a mess hall to eat all on the same site. We also have a vast selection of weapons dedicated to your unit to choose from. Should you accept this offer, there is a plane ticket to Hereford that leaves tonight.
"Sir, I accept. But can I tell my squad goodbye?"
The colonel nodded. I rushed off to tell my teammates about the letter. First was Connor, or as we called him Jukebox. Dude could sing almost any song there was.
"Connor, todays my last day here. They chose me and Thunder to go to Rainbow. I'll never forget my days here, brother. Thanks for all the memories."
Connor gave me a look of sorrow and understanding. He patted my back and told me to have fun. Lastly it was Katie 'Little Red' Park. She apparently loved fairy tales as a kid, and she's still childish, but she's like our little sister. Nobody touches her without us knowing about it. I walked over to her and she ran to me and hugged me, which I found surprising.
Katie: I heard the news. Are you really leaving?
I nodded.
"Sorry, Little Red, but I guess this squad's good days are over. I'll miss having you around."
Katie: I'm gonna help you pack. You're gonna look the best there!
"Aw, thanks, but I'm sure I got this."
She refused and off to my bunk we went. We packed my stuff all into a suitcase, and I gave her one last hug and left with Baker to the airport.
"So, why'd you go all cold when he mentioned Hereford?"
Baker shook his head. I decided not to press any further and fell asleep for the flight to Hereford.
"GET DOWN! I NEED A MEDIC! SOMEBODY FUCKING GET A MEDIC!" Bullets could be heard whizzing around. "No, no, stay with me, brother. You're gonna make it." The person groaned. "No, listen, I'm not gonna make it. But my only question is why you didn't save me." The other person cried. "Brother I tried. They just wouldn't show up. I swear." The dying man got angrier. "BULLSHIT! I will make you suffer."
