It's the 1950s well 1952 to be exact and Charles and Susan are juniors in high school. Charles is black with a forgiving and Christian family they raised him to be respectful and know his boundaries when it comes to being around white folks. Susan is white with a racist father and mother. They live in the Deep South of Alabama. Charles cousin from California comes to visit. Here's the story of how they come together.

"Yeah right Linda not even like that and you know her family ain't either" Charles said walking with his friends mike and James and his cousin from up north Robert

"I don't know who Linda is but I do know that I'm thirsty how bout we get some pop" Robert walking across the street to a small store with white people walking out of it

"Wait rob man no you can't go in there" James warned

"What yes I can it's a store and as I know this is a free country" he said walking in the store it was too late for one of the boys to grab him and pull him back before anyone noticed

"Damn" Charles whispered watching him afraid to go inside because of the stares the white men were giving Robert. He had no knowledge of how the south works with its viscous ways. Roberts mother never let him watch any of the marches that took place in the south. She wanted nothing to do with the south and her children were forbidden to know of it but Robert begged her to come down and visit us and she had told Charles to look out for him and show him the ropes

"We have to get him out of there" James said

"Hi my name is Robert and id like a hot dog and coke please" Robert didn't notice the stare of the white server he didn't realize he was in danger if she yelled or did something to make it seem like she was in danger

"Boy you best be getting on before I call the police and have you arrested" the white women said

"Why what did I do wrong" Robert questioned

" oh Karen ease up the boy might not be from round here"

"I don't care where he's from he's still black and he's still a negro"

"I'm sorry ma'am he isn't from here he's from up north he doesn't know"Charles said to both the ladies "let's go" he whispered to Robert

"What no I want a hot dog and a coke right here right now"

"Robert lets go man" Charles said pushing him out the door "Man what's wrong with you do you know you could've got yourself and us killed huh do you know that those are white people who don't mind coming to out houses picking us and taking us for a ride beating us then hanging us from any of these trees just for that stunt you pulled" Charles explained

"I sorry man I didn't know" Robert said

"Yeah we know you didn't know but now you do whenever your in the south stay out of white folks way and read the damn signs when it say whites only they mean whites only no blacks and if when can go in somewhere where whites go we go through the back not the front we always ride the back of the bus never the front of you stay out of white folks way you won't have no troubles" mike said

"Understand" James said putting his hand on Roberts left shoulder

"I got it" Robert said

They continued walking and saw a group of white girls. The boys knew no to mess with them because they were the type to rebel against there fathers deep Jim crow rules but Robert just couldn't resist that one beautiful lady.
Susan. Now she wasnt normally seen with those girls. Actually she was the complete opposite. She didn't just go for black men to rebel against her father. She knew what she wanted and it was just a man. She didn't see color. She saw what was underneath.

"Hi boys" the girls giggled at the site of them

"Hi ladies what's your name blonde girl" Robert being the only one who said something

"Susanne, Susanne McDonald" she said sticking her hand out for a handshake and as Robert was about to go in to shake it Charles pulled him back by his collar

"Sorry ladies gotta jet see you" Charles said leaving a charming smile

"I'll see you around right Susanne"

"Sure if you want"

They were right down the street from Charles mom house. So he drug Robert the whole way there.

"Man did you not listen to what I told you those girls fathers are kkk members people who will kill us and not blink"

"I'm sorry man but she was red hot I think I'm in love"

"Do yall hear this cat he says he's in love with Susanne" mike said
