Don't Be Sad
Billy spent most of the next day practising his monologue. Sure, he was nervous, but he couldn't wait for Elianne to hear him perform. He entered the competition solely for the purpose of getting away from school before the trip. He despised every second of it and frequently skipped class as a result. He couldn't wait to get home so he could spend as much time as possible with the girl he had come to understand he adored.
Billy finished his final exercise as the sun began to set before putting on his blue hoodie and heading to Elianne's suite. He only wished Margot wasn't there so he could spend some quality time with her alone.
Elianne had just gotten out of the shower and was brushing her hair while swaying her body to the music on the radio. Her second-to-last night in California was spent singing along to broken lyrics and simply enjoying herself.
She heard a knock on the door and assumed it was Margot, so she turned down the radio and went to answer it. When she opened it, she saw Billy, who was nervously smiling. She stepped aside, enabling the boy to enter, which he did, but she soon regretted it because she realised she was just wearing her bathrobe. He didn't notice until he glanced her way again, much to her relief.
He blushed profusely, his ears going bright red. "Is it, uh, a bad time?" He asked, looking at anywhere but her. "I can leave⸺"
"Oh, no, it's okay." she laughed. "I just got out of the shower and was about to put on some clothes. Wait out here."
"I'll let you do that." Billy faced away from her and went towards the giant queen-sized bed, which he assumed was Elianne's.
She inhaled deeply and walked into the bathroom, closing the door behind her. She swiftly changed into her pyjamas, which consisted of a loose t-shirt and short shorts. She couldn't help but want to dress beyond her comfort zone in front of Billy, while not knowing why. Maybe that's why she didn't seem embarrassed earlier when he saw her in virtually nothing.
"So, what brings you here?" Elianne asked after coming out of the bathroom.
Billy smiled shyly and rubbed the back of his neck, sitting down on the bed. She sat beside him, and a moment passed before he spoke up.
"There's this girl . . ." Immediately catching her attention, she turned to look at him, afraid she might hear what she doesn't want to. "God, she's⸺she's great. I think I really like her."
"Who?" Elianne interrupted not out of curiosity, but rather because she didn't really want to hear any more compliments of someone else from Billy.
Billy furrows his eyebrows inquisitively, reading the girl's expression. She's so oblivious, he thought.
"Just someone," he added, "I'm still trying to figure out how to tell her."
Elianne lookef around the room then back at him. "Is it Miss Stevens?"
Billy opened his mouth to laugh at her but instead shook his head with a wide grin. "That's just, oh no, why would you even think that?"
"I don't know!" She stammered. "I mean, I see the way you look at her, and then two days ago when you wanted to join her outside alone and then asked her if⸺"
"That was only because I didn't want to see you." Billy closed his eyes, catching his words before they fall off track. "I mean⸺"
"You didn't wanna see me? "
"No, that's not what I meant." Billy sighed, rubbing his temple. "Just forget it."
Elianne sat down in the middle of the bed, facing the other way. She was concerned that if she talked, she would sound as if she were about to cry, which would just exacerbate the problem.
Billy abruptly rose up on the bed and began hopping on the mattress, breaking the silence. Her pale face was etched with bewilderment as she glanced at him.
"Billy, what are you doing?"
"Don't be sad!"
"I'm not sad⸺"
"Don't be sad!" He snatched her wrist and dragged her up alongside him. She was on the verge of collapsing, but his grip on her wrist saved her from falling. Elianne shrugged and began leaping after a few seconds of just watching him bounce up and down. As the two teens jumped with loud chuckles, she felt the stress of the day fade away.
After many laughs and chuckles, his leg accidentally bumped into hers, causing her to fall down with him coincidentally on top of her.
"I feel like we're in this position all too often."
Elianne suppressed a laugh and returned her gaze to the hazel orbs in front of her. He didn't say anything. Perhaps it was in the heat of the moment that he and she both began to lean forward. Their lips came together in a delicate kiss.
She drew him closer by wrapping her arms around his neck. As the kiss became more forceful, his hands were pressed to either side of her head. His lips followed the side of her mouth before moving on to her jawline and finally her neck. Billy seemed to be becoming way too engaged in the activity when she felt his hands gradually working their way up her shirt, revealing her stomach slightly, as the two showered each other for a little more.
Billy Mitman was Elianne's first kiss.
Elianne was the first to back away as she realised what was going to happen. Billy's brows were furrowed and his cheeks were flushed with pink. He got off of her and slumped on the bed, exhausted. His lips were swollen, but his eyes twinkled with lust, which she hoped wasn't the case.
"That was . . ." He bit his lip shyly. "Damn, you sure that was your first kiss?"
"That was not supposed to happen," Elianne interrupted, forcing Billy's face to sink in sadness. However, it vanished as swiftly as it arrived.
"What do you mean?"
She looked at him and straightened herself in a sitting position. "Look, Billy. Y-You like someone else . . . this isn't right."
Billy's face was flushed with a mix of bewilderment and rage, and he shook his head, unsure what to say. A lovely moment was spoiled solely because he chose to keep something hidden? He couldn't believe what he was hearing. He refused to believe it. Maybe it wasn't even him who was to blame; rather it was the fact that she was too naive to see through his deception.
"Wait, but⸺"
The front door swung open quickly, and Margot and Sam dashed inside, their shopping bags slung over their shoulders. Elianne smiled warmly at them, having temporarily forgotten what had just happened.
Margot noticed the boy and eyed him suspiciously. "What's Billy doing here?"
Elianne smiled convincingly. "I was just helping him with his monologue."
"You sure? I was⸺"
"I was just leaving," the said boy cut off, standing up and sauntering to the door. Without even so much as a second glance, he walked out and shut the door loudly behind him.
