"You don't deserve to live."
"Absolute scum."
"I hate everything about you."
"You're not my daughter! I wish you were never born."

Only a few of the horrible things (Y/N) had heard from her adoptive mom throughout her lifetime. She was born without a quirk, a very rare thing nowadays.

As her mother soon realized she would never manifest a quirk, she had lost interest in caring for (Y/N).

"You're useless. I never should've adopted you," your mother had sneered at you, before locking you up in your room and away from the outside world.

You got no food, no water. From your window you'd have to sneak, like a delinquent child, away from your so-called 'home' to scavenge for food.

Luckily, you had found a kind soul that often gave you the necessities. He was rather shy, but always uplifting to talk to. Izuku Midoriya has become your only friend.

He wouldn't look down on you, or anyone for that matter.

You first met him after you had failed to find any food from kind strangers on the street. He was walking with a group of friends and happened to come across you asking some men for their leftover meals.

"Go away, stupid homeless," one of them snarled. "I'm taking this food to my girlfriend, I'm not going to give it to some low life like you." He laughed, walking away with his ugly companions.

He felt sorry for you so he told his friends he had to go and offered to buy you something to eat at a nearby café. You had tried your best to tell him—or show him, rather— how much this meant to you.

Since you couldn't tell him that you hadn't been able to interact much with people, Midoriya found it odd how you didn't speak. He wondered if you were mute often, but never asked out of fear of being rude.

So, when you showed up on his street again he naturally took you hack to his home. "(Y/N), do you need food?" He asked as soon as you entered the front door.

You nodded. "Okay. I'll have my Mom make your favorite," he said. You sat down on his familiar couch and looked down at your hands. They were shaking again, thankfully that would stop when you got fed.

As soon as Midoriya's mother served you the plate, you bowed slightly and slowly ate everything. "You know," Midoriya started, "I feel bad asking but... why don't you speak?"

You had never been asked this question before, so you had to think about your response. "I..." you croaked out, trying to think of the words you should use.

"Was n-never taugh..taught." You finally got out. Midoriya was surprised you had spoken to him. Your voice sounded so rough and unnatural, however.

"What do you mean? You can write it down if you need." Midoriya said before getting up and grabbing a pen and paper. You watched him move all the way over to the desk and back.

You grabbed the pen with a shaky hand and began to slowly write. I'm quirkless. My adoptive mother found out and locked me away in my room.

She hardly is ever home, so sometimes I can get food from the kitchen. But, of course we run out often. She has a boyfriend that she always visits so that's usually where she is.

You paused and looked up at Midoriya. He was still reading.

I have been using what I've heard from you to form smaller sentences. But I don't know how to say them all...

"I can teach you." Midoriya said after he had caught up with his reading. You smiled at him. "Next time," you softly said.

You crawled back into your window quietly, searching for the light switch. "Hello, darling."

You freeze.

Your mother flicks on the lights, revealing her angry face. You shrink under her intense gaze (gaze wanted to autocorrect to VAV?? Wtf) and close your eyes in anticipation.

"So you've been sneaking out? But to where, I wonder. You have no friends, nobody cares about you!" She yelled at you. You flinched, kneeling down and pleading silently.

"Oh, get up," she yanked your arms out of your face. "And get the hell out! I don't want you to stay here anymore!" She shoved you towards the open window.

Now tears streamed down your face. "Go!" She yelled again, relentlessly hitting you until you were halfway out of the window. "Don't come back!"

And with that, she pushed your chest, forcefully sending you out of the window to hit the ground below. You lay there, slowly losing consciousness.

The street lights flooded your vision of the dark sky. Blurs of green and tan danced over you. Someone was screaming at you, but nothing they said made any sense.

You felt warmth encompassing your body, wet and sticky. Red masked over, making you close your eyes due to the sting. The buzzing in your head stopped and the warmth faded away.

And then nothing hurt anymore.
