I would be lying if I said my current hair color was not a determining factor in my Halloween costume this year. In fact, I don't think I would have even considered my costume choice if I hadn't dyed my hair this silver... platinum... gray, blonde... hue. I'm not an expert on hair dye or colors, so I never really know what to call it. It just looks cool.
To be honest, I just felt bored with the way I looked and decided the most drastic way to vastly alter my appearance was by changing my hair color. Of course, I could have gotten some sort of piercing or even a tattoo, but I'm comfortable with admitting that I'm a baby. And while I adore tattoos endlessly and secretly want one, part of me is still afraid of getting a needle stabbed into my skin a bunch of times.
It didn't take me long to decide on the hair transformation, though. Dylan helped me choose the color, and I think now he loves it more than I do. I have really come to adore it. And now, it has led to me being dressed as a Hogwarts student.
Specifically, a Slytherin student.
Even more specifically, one with the last name Malfoy.
But, you know, the female version.
It is October thirty-first, and my name for the day is Kaida Malfoy; I am the gender-bent Draco Malfoy. Kaori decided my name would be Kaida, as apparently it means dragon in Japanese, and has the same number of syllables as Draco. Good enough for me. I just hope people get it.
With a dark gray skirt, white button up, sliver and green tie, and black knee-high socks, I think I play the part pretty well. I even straightened my hair until it was bone-straight and slicked back the top of it. I don't wanna brag, but I have to say I killed it.
Most businesses don't give a crap about most holidays, particularly Halloween. Nothing is ever closed on Halloween, and that includes restaurants. Amazingly, the spooky holiday landed on a Saturday which was all every college student could ever hope for. However, Dylan and I still had to spend the morning and early afternoon cooking up Italian dishes and serving them to hungry but friendly people.
We're both a little tired and smell a lot like food once our shift is over, but that's nothing a little nap and shower couldn't fix. After waking up, showering, and hanging out a little, we both began getting dressed for the evening's festivities. By this point, we were more than ready for a night of creepy celebration.
Dylan decided to dress up as my perfect counterpart, Harry Potter. Luckily for him, he didn't have to do too much for his costume. He just has to throw on some clothes, mess up his hair a little, then top it off with the perfectly round glasses we found at the thrift store. He decided to do some homework while I got dolled up. Once I finished doing my makeup, he allowed me to draw on a pretty decently-drawn scar with some eyeliner and face paint.
Now, the two of us are ready to depart!
All that's left is to wait for our ride. Gordon is our designated driver for the evening. He lives a pretty healthy lifestyle which means he doesn't drink much, and I think he enjoys being the responsible one of the group. Because of this, nobody was surprised when he immediately volunteered to be the DD. It's about nine o'clock in the evening when he pulls up to our complex in his mom's Chevy Tahoe.
Apparently, as Dylan informs me, Gordon lives on campus even though his family only lives twenty minutes away. If it means we get the car with eight seats, it's fine by me.
As we excitedly climb into the car, where they're playing loud hip-hop music, we find that Gordon is all smiles and dressed as the Black Panther. He's even greeting us with an African accent, that he informs us is modeled after his grandfather. In the passenger seat is Sung, who at first simply looks like he's dressed business casual.
