Chapter 2

After an hour-long drive, we arrived at our destined location.

"So any new distributions?" I asked Nivea.

She gave me a simple nod before heading into the elevator of the building.

"C'mon." she ushered me into the elevator and we headed up into the penthouse.

"New product, from the usual guy." she shrugged. "we just named it substance X, don't know what it is."

-Maxine Handerson POV-

"Any new cases?" I asked my partner Matthew as he sat down beside me.

"well, not that I know of" leaning back into the chair.

Just as he had said that I spot our head agent - Commander Man comes into the room.

"Alright everyone, listen up!" He announces as he stood in the middle of the office.

Everyone within the room turned all their attention onto him.

"There is a new outbreak and I need the best of the best." he had turned into Matthew and I's direction.

"Ugh." an office mate groaned. "You already know its the M and M's" He turned his attention back onto his computer and continued with his work.

Commander Man walks up to Matthew and me as soon as he dismisses the announcement.

"Handerson, Kingsley" He called "My office, now."

"Yes, sir."Matthew and I replied in sync.

Once inside the commanders' office, we took our seats in front of his mahogany desk.

"There's been a new drug distributed out all over Everglan, this drug causes those who take it to become very, very violent." he paused. Sliding over files that contain any evidence that could help Matthew and me out.

"Take a look into these files and gear up."Commander Man said sternly. "You start this investigation today."

Matthew and I gave a curt nod towards Commander Man before we slipped out of his office and into the hallway.

"Well, I gotta go for now," Matthew said to me, glancing down at his phone that had just started to ring.

"But why? Commander Man told us to get started on this investigation today." I frowned.

"I just have to call my relatives quickly."He excused himself before rushing out of the building.

"hm." I hummed as I continued to walk into the lounge room.

-Quinns POV-

Laughing along at Nivea's joke, my phone had started to ring. Sliding right to accept, I brought the phone up to my ear.

"The DEA's are investigating."He whispered."Make sure to keep your tracks clean."

"Okay, onto it. We'll keep clear for now till the investigation slows down"I paused."Slow them down Matt."I replied, hearing the call decline I put my phone down and called for everybody to gather around.

"The new products causing an investigation, keep it low and tracks clean." They all nodded in sync and went back into their rooms to rest.

-Maxine's POV-

Peering out of the office window, I spot Matthew nearing the edge of an alleyway looking deep in thought as he spoke into his phone.

"He seemed off ever since he found out about the drug investigation don't you think ?" A voice said beside me.

"Lewis!" I gasped. "Don't creep up on me like that!" I said to him as I laughed, clutching my chest.

"Sorry Max," he laughed along with me."Seriously though, he has been acting weird."Lewis shrugged.

"He started to fidget as soon as Commander Man brought it up," he added, taking a sip of his usual white chocolate latte.

"I don't know, I didn't notice anything different about him."

Lewis gasped as he raised a finger up in the air. "We should spy on him." He giggled.

"What?" was all I managed to say before he dragged me out of the building and held onto me until we were close to Matthew.

"The DEA's are investigating, make sure to keep your tracks clean." He said into the phone.

Lewis and I both rushed back into a café nearby. "Girl I told you!" he said to me as I stood shocked in front of him.

"C'mon we have to tell Commander Man."

I nodded as we ran back into headquarters and into Commander Man's office.

"So, what's your good reason to be barging into my office like a herd of elephants?" Commander Man sighs as he keeps his eyes on the documents in front of him.

"It's about Matthew, Sir," Lewis said in between breaths.

Chapter 3

After telling Commander Man about everything we have witnessed, he quickly assigned other officers to track Matthew's phone and the location of the person on the other line.

"Lewis and Maxine, Investigate this location and do drug samples on their drugs. Find out what they are ."He ordered us as he wrote down a location onto a sticky note.

"Yes, Sir," Lewis said as he left the room to gear up with the other officers

"Maxine," Commander Man called after me. "You go gear up too but remember to not disclose anything to Matthew."

Sending a firm nod his way, I left the room to get geared up. Bulletproof jacket and all.

Grabbing the testing kits and shoving it in my bag, I jogged downstairs to find lewis in one of the black SUVs.

"Gotta blast Maxi," Lewis said to me as he sped off to the location, two other undercover police vans in tow.

Once arriving just around the corner of the location written on the paper, I receive a text from Matthew.

"Max where are you?" the text read.

"Just grabbing food with Lewis," I replied.

It sucks to find out that your partner in crime is actually part of the crime.
