I got to school and I felt stares from everyone I passed. I was smiling brightly and skipping to my locker. (F/n) caught up to me. "Hey (Y/n) don't over do it. I know you finally got some sleep, but I don't want you to crash," they sighed. I paused. "Sorry, I'm just so excited. I finally get to do everything normally! I get to experience life again," I smiled.
I felt amazing, so full of energy, it felt like walking on air. I surprised everyone that day! I was so full of life, even the Teachers were shocked at how well I was doing. When the lunch bell rang (F/n) turned their chair around. "So what about the night made the nightmares go away," They asked and I looked confused. "You said a night," They explained. "Oh I meant a Knight. Like a knight in a queens army," I replied and they were even more confused. I then tried to explain...
"Well in my dreams I'm protected by this guy," I tried explaining. "Guy?" They repeated. "Yeah like a knight in shining armor. He saved me last night from a terrible monster. So I was able to relax and that feeling was incredible, I forgot how it felt, but I'm scared that it was just a one time thing," I trailed off disappointed. "Hey come on don't say that. Maybe this is your brain finally coping with your condition," (F/n) smiled at me and I felt better and smiled back. "So what did he look like," asked (F/n) and I felt my face heat up. "Uhhh," I mumbled. "Come on was he cute!" They asked excited. "Well... I guess he's cute. Um he had (color) hair, (color) eyes, and he was tall," I explained. "Hmm sounds handsome I guess, but you didn't describe him very well. Where do you think you saw him," They asked before taking a bite of their sandwich. "I have no idea. He seemed like he'd stand out if I saw him at school," I sighed. "Well it's not like we know the upperclassmen very well. Maybe you saw him at the hospital or at the place you get therapy," They said curiously. "I don't know but hopefully he'll save me again," I said before eating some of my lunch.
Later that night as I slept I appeared in another rundown town. The sickly matte green and purple sky made everything a little dark. Knight was there and I followed him into what looked like an office building. The monsters screams weren't as loud and we found a break room. "So are we hiding here for the moment," I asked meekly. "I suppose so. Have a seat and I'll guard the door," he said and I didn't move. "It's ok. I'll stand with you," I whispered taking secret glances trying to remember where I've seen him.
He slowly looked into my eyes and sighed before taking a seat. I stared down at the table. "I know he's probably antisocial, but we spend a lot of time together. Why does he still feel like a stranger. This shouldn't bother me, but it does. I guess as long as I'm safe sitting in silence is fine...right? Every night just being quiet? I should try to relax," I thought as I slumped back into the rickety old chair only to be surprise by a crunch. I felt myself fall backwards and I was about to scream when I felt my body stop. The chair landed in pieces on the floor and my body was leaning back yet I was still upright. He had grabbed my shirt, to keeping me from falling. "Thank you," I said as I got my footing and he let go. "Let's sit on the ground," he said getting up from his chair and walking towards the wall. "But you didn't have to give up your seat! I'm ok on the floor," I protested. He looked back at me with a blank expression; not bothering to say a word as he reached the wall. "Please! It'll be fine, the table is not that far from the wall anyway an-," I was interrupted.
"Who's going to protect you then," he sighed like I was an idiot and I just gave up and sat next to him on the floor. "Can you at least tell me your name?" I asked softly. "Hm?" He asked. "I know you said it doesn't matter but it does! Please," I said quickly, hoping he wouldn't be angry as I stared at the floor. He took a deep breath and said "call me whatever you like." Then closed his eyes.
"Whatever I like? I get to choose his name? Maybe that's just how I'm dreaming it. I mean... he's not real so... what should I call him," I thought real hard. I kept glancing at him hoping to have an idea. "I don't want it to be too boring, yet I don't want it to be to crazy. How about for now I'll call him Knight," I thought smiling to myself before closing my eyes.
