CHARLES DONOGHUE and his family moved from Ireland to New York for a better life, having gotten hurt after some man saw Charlie kissing a boy in the alley when he was 16 resulting in the loss of his leg. After that, he vowed to keep a big part of himself a secret, but it was like it seemed to follow him to New York, even at the age of 24.
He didn't know if it was because of his leg or if they could just tell because people either avoided him altogether or bullied him relentlessly. Charlie was content to stay alone forever until he met Steve Rogers.
Charlie liked Steve, he thought at times he was a bit odd but so was Charlie so he couldn't say much. As Steve was a sickly person Charlie could relate to him a little bit, he wasn't sick perse but people also avoided Steve, but not James Barnes.
James was Steve's friend first but naturally became Charlie's when he came into the picture. He was the one who always took Steve and Charlie out, in the guise of a triple date.
But Charlie would never be into the girls, he could never tell either. He was content with never telling Steve or James the truth until Steve wanted to join the army and became a super soldier to do that. Charlie was never a superficial person, it would be hypocritical of him to think like that but all of a sudden when seeing Steve everything felt... brighter.

AUTHOR NOTES || If you are wondering, "have I seen this before?" YOU HAVE! Well, the old version. After I watched Top Gun Maverick I really wanted to change Steve to Glen Powell, and this idea was supported by Buffy who by now you all have many many things to thank them for. I went through the grueling process of trying to find a new Charlie and no one was hitting me like I wanted until I watched my comfort show Merlin and Colin Morgan slapped me in the face. I knew he was perfect for Charlie, so with the new, Charlie settled I got a burst of ideas and motivation. So I hope you guys enjoy this new rewrite because it's different from last time ;)
