The Intern

chapter 1

"Hey, babe." Tanner, my boyfriend kisses my cheek
Now, let me introduce myself. My name is Lauren Riley. I live in San Diego, California and attend Trinity High School. It's a private school so everyday I have to wear a forest green shirt with the logo and a skort. I have dirty blonde hair that goes to my collarbone with green eyes. I'm about 5'6. I'm also 16 and a sophomore.
My dad owns a law firm called Riley and Bond law firm. My best friends are Hailey and Kelly. My mom is a cosmetologist. Also, I have the best boyfriend ever. His name is Tanner. We've been dating since the end of freshmen year. He's four inches taller than me and has brown hair and greenish colored eyes. He's perfect and all mine.

"Hiiii." I respond

Tanner sits behind me and pulls out his IPad. We use IPads at school because it's the new trend at school. No text books. We have a software and we have homework on it. Buuuuut, sometimes I just close out of the software and text off of Imessage, go on social media, or play a game.

"Students, please open to "Animal Farm." Mrs, Locke asks

We all click on Animal Farm and turn to page 85. I'm not really interested in the book. I read it in 8th grade for literature.

"I'm here to see my dad." I tell the receptionist. She nods and I walk to my dad's office. As I approach my dad's office I see someone already waiting. He looks so unfamiliar. There's 8 attorneys here so maybe he's new? Or a client. Duh, he probably is!

"Uh, Mr. Riley is busy at the moment."
the blonde boy announces

"I'm his daughter. I think I can go in." I try to say sweetly

"Oh? You're the girl he talks about? His loving daughter?"

"I guess?" I laugh

"Hmmm, I saw your picture on his desk. You're awfully pretty." he smirks

I shrug. I shouldn't be associated with him.

The door opens and I see a woman come out. I guess she's filing for divorce? My dad is a divorce attorney.

"Lauren! Come in, come in!" my dad exclaims

I walk over and give my dad a hug.

"Hey, dad. How are you?" I ask

"Great! I would like you to meet my new intern. Niall." my dad nods towards the man

"Hello." Niall says and walks into my dad's office

"Niall is studies at the University here. He's 22 with perfect grades. Maybe he could help you with Algebra." my dad jokes at the end

"Maybe.." I mumble

"I surely wouldn't mind. I'd be glad to help."

I already feel uncomfortable around this guy. I literally just met him.
My phone beeps and I see that Tanner has texted me.

Tanner: wanna study together for biology?

I smile to myself and text back a yes with a heart. I look back up from my phone to see my father and Niall looking at me with a blank face.

"What?" I ask

"I was just asking if Niall could tutor you tonight for your Algebra text in 2 days. You already have a C in the class."

"I can't. I'm studying for biology tonight with Tanner."

"Ah, Tanner. Your boyfriend. He's a smart boy."

I just nod and stand there awkwardly. Ugh, this is so weird.
"So how about tomorrow night Niall? I'll even pay you for tutoring if so." my dad promotes

"Tomorrow sounds great and there's no need to pay me. I think I can teach her just well." Niall smirks at me

I walk out of my dad's office but feel a hand on my shoulder. I look around.

"I'll really teach you a lesson, babe." he whispers in my ear

Oh my.
