it was pouring hard. it was already 12 midnight. yewon fell asleep in the library while studying for her exams and was only awaken by the librarian telling her to go home.
her dorm was not too far from the library, but it wasn't that near either. she forgot to bring an umbrella and the only thing she has with her was her dead phone. she also didn't have any money left so she had no choice but to walk.
she didn't want to get soaked in the rain so she ran. but she bumped into someone, rather, a man.
the man's figure was thin, petite, even. he also wasn't that tall, only a few inches taller than yewon.
"hey, what are you doing here at this time of the night?" he asked with a deep yet soft voice. "shit, you're soaked."
"u-uhm, I fell asleep in the library." yewon answered, feeling shy.
"and why are you wet?" he also asked.
"uhm, because it's raining?" yewon sarcastically said. "and if you haven't seen, which you obviously have, i forgot to bring an umbrella."
"yeah, sorry. dumb question." the unknown man apologized and scratched the back of his neck. a force of habit, maybe?
"it's fine. it's fine." she said.
after the short talk, only silence was heard. the only thing you can hear was the wind howling, and the rain pouring down, the sounds from the umbrella was evident.
the said man broke the silence, "so, um, you want to like, hang out? it's still raining and i don't have anything else to do and i also might want to get to know you better." he proposed. "oh shit, of course you won't, i'm literally a stranger. uhm, just forget i asked and i'll just lea-"
"yeah, sure." yewon cut him off.
"wait, really?" he said, surprised.
"why not?" she laughed. "anyways, kim yewon, 20 years old. you?" yewon introduced herself.
"ah. min yoongi, 25," he answered.
"you're so old!" she teased.
"tss, i'm not that old. i'm just a few years older than you." yoongi hissed while yewon just laughed. yoongi swore that it was the cutest laugh he just heard.
they started being friends, good friends, even. eventually, they started developing feelings for each other. they dated for a few years and was very so in love with each other, you will never see them separated. even if they're with their own friends, they're still together. they build each other. they're each other's halves. their soulmate. the shoulder to cry on. without the other, they feel so lost. and they know that they were made for each other. till the end.
but something changed. the fire that was once burning with love and trust turned into cold ashes. they grew further and far from each other. who knew that the couple that was so lost in each other's eyes will become far from each other. they were so close yet so far.
yewon felt that their relationship was slowly becoming suffocating, toxic. as if it was being forced like it was a routine that they didn't want to do. they were always fighting. always arguing. both of them always find something to fight about, may it be something big or something small. but their pride was the biggest of all.
they both wanted to make their relationship work again, but no one was doing any effort to do so.
"we need to talk." yewon said as soon as she saw yoongi enter their shared apartment. "it's about us."
yoongi expected that. even though he doesn't want to admit, he knew that it wasn't the same anymore.
"le-let's sit down first," she said and sat down on the sofa, with yoongi following her.
"yoongi..." she started. "i think its best for us to..." she paused and bit her lip. she wanted to do this, she prepared for this, but why can't she say it? why are there no words coming out of her lips?
"break up?" yoongi said, not scared yet nervous. he knew this was going to happen sooner or later, he already prepared himself for it, but why did everything that he prepared for was suddenly, gone?
"ye-yeah." yewon hesitantly said. she knew they both needed this break, but she didn't was to let go of yoongi, the man of her dreams, the love of her life, but she needed to.
"yewon." yoongi called. "can i ask you something?" he said and yewon nodded as an answer. "what happened?" he said and sighed. "...to us?"
"i-i don't know." yewon sighed. i'm sorry. she badly wants to say that. "i-i'm just going to sleep."
"oh, and yewon?" yoongi called as he saw yewon stand up.
"hmm?"
"u-uh..." i'm sorry. he badly wanted to say that.
"what is it, yoongi?" yewon asked, with a soft voice.
"no-nothing... good night."
