Shauna snapped her fingers in my face, which took me out of my daze.

“Did you hear me?” Shauna asked.

“Hear what?”

“I said their about to start” Shauna said while pointing at the circle.

There was a girl with jet-black hair, dark brown eyes, skinny and had glasses and the other one had bright red hair, muscular and freckles all over.

“The girl with the black hair is Marshall, people call her Mars, she’s the leader of the runners and the one with the red hair, her name is Peru and she’s the leader of the tool-crafters.” Shauna explained.

“I have my bets on Peru.”

I could see Shauna strongly disagreed.

“No way. Marshall is quick as a cat and always fully alert.”

“How is that going to help you in the circle though?”

“You’ll see.” Shauna said with a smirk like she already knew she was right.

Shauna and I sat watching from where we were sitting. Peru made the first move charging into Mars but Mars span around her and pushed her to the edge of the circle. Thinking I’ve already lost the bet, Peru jumps up and grabs Mars and tries to pull her out of the circle but Mars’s slips out of her grasp and swings her foot across Peru’s feet causing Peru to fall out of the circle. Harriet claiming Mars the winner and helping Peru up, then it’s on to the next competitor.

“Why do people compete?” I asked Shauna

“I already told you, you get a champions breakfast for a week!”

“Yeah I know that, but why else? People compete against girls that know they would lose against to, like Marshall. I don’t think they just want to get their ass kicked just for a breakfast? That just doesn’t sound right.”

Shauna paused as if she had to think about what she was going to say.

“Hope. It’s the only thing keeping us all sane here. This night is the one thing that keeps us all together. When you do win you feel kind of better about yourself, it’s kind of weird actually.”

“No, it makes sense. Did you compete when you were the newbie?”

“Yeah, I won against a girl called Jacky, but I’m pretty sure she let me win.”

I nodded as we both watched competitor by competitor winning and losing.

“Hey, I am going to go over to get a better view, do you want to come?” Shauna asked.

“Nah, I’ll just stay here”

She nodded and waked towards where all the girls were.

I watched from the distance until Shauna was in the circle with Sonya. I got up and walked over to give Shauna a little extra moral support. But sadly Sonya took her out in what must of been under a minute but Shauna didn’t seem to care as she walked to me while some of the girl’s high-fived her all smiling.

“Are you shocked of my astonishing fighting skills?”

“Not really” I giggled as Shauna nudged me.

“Why don’t you try then?”

“I don’t think so.”

“Hey newbie wants a go!” Shauna announced to the whole bloody universe.

There was a whole heap of ooo’s from the crowd that emerged as I was being pushed into the circle with Sonya. I was left speechless not knowing what to say. I shot a glare a Shauna who just smirked back. This is what I get for giving her moral support.

“I’ll go easy on you newbie, don’t worry” Sonya said not sounding promising at all.

Seconds later Sonya’s charging at me, panic shots through me just before I hit the ground on my back with a great amount of force leaving me gasping for air.

All I see is black and then a middle aged guy screaming at me to run ringing in my ears.

I open my eyes and Sonya is giving me her hand to help me up, with girls cheering at probably Sonya. I stand up confused with what I just saw and heard. I look around to see no man just girls all cheering.

“I give you another chance newbie, this time I promise ill go easy on you.” Sonya once again said but this time more believable.

I was still confused with what just happened and then I burst about everything and everyone. This time I charged at Sonya, too quick for her to dodge. Using all my strength pushing agaisnt Sonya's shoulder while she was pushing agaisnt mine in the opposite direction. I lean to my open side grabbing Sonya’s shirt and pushed her the way she was putting all her force. A whole heap of girls stood stunned but still cheering on. I turned around to see what was going on when Sonya bear hugged me from behind, I spun around breaking her grasp and kicked her ankles causing Sonya to tumble out of the circle. The crowd was cheering, this time for me, but my mind was occupied with how I learnt to fight like that. I felt confused of everything that just happened in the last 60 seconds. I just needed to get away.

I pushed my way though the crowd and ran to the toilet shack locking my self in there. I turned the light on which was a just a hanging light bulb on the ceiling, slightly flickering. I sat on the toilet crying through confusion and anger. I felt completely helpless and misguided about the whole situation.

I noticed I had blood soaking though my thin long sleeved shirt I was wearing so I took it off leaving me with just my singlet on. I rinsed my shirt and cleaned the small cut on my arm, which I have no recollection of happening but it must of occurred when Sonya knocked me to the ground. I was glad no one bothered to disturb me but it did start to get cold in the shack. I started to rub my hands up and down my arms hoping for some form of warmth when I felt something on my arm just below my shoulder. I got the hand mirror and tried to get it on an angle that I could see what it was. It was an extreme scar in the form as writing. It would of taken ages for this to heal so it must have been done a long time ago. It took me a while to get out what it said with a dirty and broken mirror. After re-reading it over and over again I finally admitted to myself of what was written on my arm. I was hoping of some kind of code to get out of here but instead it just read ‘WICKED is good’.
