Chapter 2

Both of us stared straight ahead, forgetting how to breath and how to think rationally. We were kept frozen in this strangers gaze, not realizing he was using our initial shock to gain more time. Time he needed to become stronger.

"Please tell me that's supposed to happen..." My voice trembled.

Raina shook her head uneasily. "No. I'm only supposed to see a spirit floating in this bowl." She pointed to a bowl full of water in front of her. That was the first moment that it was clear of the deep trouble we were in. I looked back at the un-earthly man, and regretted it instantly.

Excelling out of him was a certain deadly charm. It was so other worldly, this feeling he could captivate us with, so odd, and, for lack of a better world, magical. It was almost like he had cast his own spell on us, one of enchantment and yearning.

I wanted to touch him. I wanted to trace my finger tips across his face and down his chest, to then nestle my head into the crook of his neck and inhale his sweet scent. I yearned for his touch, and a kiss that would change me.

From Raina's sudden heavy breathing I knew she felt the same, which made me suddenly jealous. I envied her looks, how he would probably pick her over me. She was between me and him. She had to die.

Raina was the one to break from his enchantment first, regaining her mind quickly enough to dodge my feeble attack at her throat. On look in her frightened eyes brought me back to myself. Did I really just try to choke my best friend?

During our small struggle a candle had fallen out of the edge of our protective circle, coming to a fizzling death on the frozen ground. Raina now look perplexed at the empty spot, worry plastering her face.

"I'm not one for water, sorry." Our eyes darted back to the spirit in front of us. We watched as he stretched out his arms and flexed them. Studying his solid body, he smiled.

"My, my, my. What have you done girls. You really should have thought more, waking some one as strong as me was not the smartest thing. Not that I'm complaining, actually I think I should be thanking you." His voice was like gold. Soft yet husky, smooth yet hard. In his hunters eyes lingered a danger the world hadn't seen since ancient times.

Seeing that Raina was in no ability to reply to him, I mustered up my courage. "We didn't know. And...And if we did summon you then we can un-summon you! Right?" I turned to Raina, who was paler than usual.

"Looks like your friend's a bit pre occupied." He smirked, and took a step closer.

Fear shot through me like an arrow. He was doing something to her, and I didn't know how to help her. Her face contorted into a painful forced grin. Her eyes started shinning a bright red, scaring me even more.

"Stop! Please, stop. You're hurting her!" I begged, my voice turning weak and weepy. Tears threatened my eyes.

He kept coming closer, un-ravelling me further. So many emotions raged through me, and I had not the slightest idea which of them were true. Pressing his hands on the invisible shield, the evil glint in his fave flickered.

"Hush. She's not in pain, I'm just showing her a glimpse of all the knowledge she wanted to know, and the price she has to pay for it."

He was so close...I could almost imagine his hot breath on my body. His perfect touch...But no. No, you're stronger then him, I thought firmly to myself.  Seeing a tiny pouch beside my foot that I hadn't noticed before, I dived for it. In big white letters the word SALT was printed on it. I guess all those Supernatural episodes I had watched actually taught me something.

Ripping open the strings that bound it shut I took a handle full of the grain like substance. Amusement danced in his eyes, as I lunged towards him, arm grasping the salt slightly up raised, and screamed a war cry.

In my mind, when the salt had contacted him, he'd slowly shriveled up and burned, screaming to be saved from his painful death. In real life I tumbled over the safety barrier, landing at his very much still alive feet, and It did nothing. Absolutely nothing.

"This is almost to easy." He laughed a deep throaty laugh.

"Is this the part I plead for your mercy?" I asked dryly. My mask had soared through the air with me, though it didn't land with me. Instead it decided to land a dozen feet away, leaving my entire face exposed.

With an predatory animals grace he stalked toward me, causing me to cower in terror. Why me? What did I do to ever deserve to be face to face with a demon? Why not someone braver, who could actually do something productive?

He gazed down at me with a look of sever hunger. He squatted directly in front of me, his closeness making me dizzy with desire, and leaned in toward my neck. I gasped, and slammed my eye lids shut, trying to no avail to shut him out.

Hot breath fell on my left ear, his voice whispering into my mind."You could plead, but I'll tell you now I'll give you no mercy. I'm hungry, Amanda. But not for food." He paused dramatically. "It's been to long since I've felt a woman's warmth."

"That sounded wrong." I spoke aloud, faint revulsion tainting my voice.

A single chilled finger touched my cheek. I could feel him marvelling at the humanness of it, the beauty. I could feel what he was feeling, as if we were connected by some imaginary binding. Hes only desire was to be human, to be able to love properly. He felt like a monster. I felt compassion for him, for what creature wouldn't feel sympathy for someone like that. I didn't pull away, instead I let him stroke soft circles across my cheek. I didn't even wince when his icy fingers travelled up my nose to pet between my eye brows.

His touch was so delicate, so precious, that it felt like a gift from a god. Continuing to smooth my nerves, he traced the out line of my lips, and then gently prodded me to give his finger entrance. Letting a quiet moan out I obliged, liking the feeling it gave me when he slid his finger inside my mouth  to run it along my teeth. Pausing for a second in his touching, I heard him sigh. Then nothing as he moved away.

"Amanda! Get away from him!" Raina, who had slumped over in sleep the second I left the circle, now screeched hoarsely.

"He's tricking you, you don't actually feel anything for him. Or you do, but you wouldn't if he didn't use his magic."

He scoffed."You don't give my natural charm half enough of credit. Before, when I was still human, I got most of the girls in my village."

I crawled over to the nearest tombstone and clung to it.  With out his touch I resumed freaking out. A wave of nausea over came me and I had to fight the urge to retched. This was all just a bad dream, it wasn't real, and it defiantly end soon,  I hoped to myself.

Through my half opened eyes I managed to glimpse Raina trying to feebly get up, but all she managed to do was fall back down onto the hard stone on her elbows.

"And might I remind you what you gave me. Or, more to say, what you gave me permission to take out of your circle. '' He gestured toward me, making me gasp.

''What Raina?'' I asked confused.

''No, It's-'' She started to say, but was interrupted.

''Don't lie. You agreed to my price, which was Amanda, even before she fell out of the circle, trying to protect your ass. I think I can see who cares more here.'' His voice turned as cold as steel, daring Raina to say something more. Which she wasn't capable of because she resumed to let herself be knocked out cold, again.

A sudden and searing pain on my left wrist left me gasping in pain. It felt as if someone had simply sliced my wrist clean off, and then proceed to smother it in acid. But when I pulled up the sleeve of my dress I saw to my surprise that there was no blood, no liquid at all. Instead an intricate tattoo design, that seemed to be moving, was being inked onto my arm. It seemed to still be forming, vines curling, leaves blooming, with a five point star in the middle of it all.

''It will only hurt for about a minute,'' He growled near my face. I hadn't noticed how close he had gotten to me again.

All I managed to choke out was: ''Why?''

''Because I chose you, and now you're mine.''
