"No!" He shouted. Dylan. Dylan! I wanted to say. But I couldn't speak. "Don't shoot her." Dylan stroked me. "She's worth too much." The man with the gun looked confused. "Are you saying you're going to buy her?" Dylan nodded. "How much?" The man thought for a second. "10 bucks, please." Dylan dug through his wallet and paid the man before grabbing me. "You're safe, sweet one."
And that's how I'm here, now at a rescue ranch, a retired Off-The-Track Thoroughbred mare, gladly enjoying life, with Oreo looking over me.
