When Rhea opened her eyes there was a distinct lack of warmth next to her. She remembered sitting rather close to Natasha last night, just the thought of it brought a smile onto her tired face. The serene feeling quickly left Rhea when she remembered that the week had started and she, of course had to got to work. Rhea loved her job, teaching her students and talking about what she was passionate about. But there was something that rugged at her, urging her to stay home.
Then there was a hum, from the bathroom down the hall. The song was soft and sweet and not in any language that Rhea knew. Then it clicked it was Russian. The only person in the house, that she was aware of, that spoke Russian was Natasha Romanoff.
"Тили-тили-бом, Закрой глаза скорее, Кто-то ходит за окном," Natasha's voice carried through out the hall.
First a feeling of utter peace washed over the dark brunette. There was something about the woman doing basic things in Rhea's home. Not even that, it was just Natasha Romanoff in general. Every little detail about her threatened a giddy smile to creep onto her face.
Then, there was a familiar feeling of dread and self hatred. This wasn't the first time Rhea had grown attracted to a girl, not even slightly. She had never said anything because while her family was very accepting, there had been instances where there had been an offhand comments. Rhea herself was not even sure what her sexuality so she had accepted the fact that she might not end up with the love of her life, it just didn't always work like that.
With the feeling of nauseous growing in the pit of her stomach, Rhea raced up the stair case as quietly as she could. It was only eight o'clock and she had a class at nine thirty. The tall woman decided to to take a short shower and get ready, she would get an early start on papers and do more work in her office at the University.
She tried to leave the house without any detection from the three ex-avengers. However as she reached the living room once again to retrieve her briefcase, she was struck by the beauty of the deadly assassin once again. In the morning sunlight, her red hair seemed to create a halo around her head. When the light hit her eyes it made them sparkle even more and gave the impression that she was not of this world.
A soft smile adorned her lips as she crossed her arms and leaned back against the wall. Natasha didn't know why, but every time she saw the woman who was practically a stranger to her, there was irresistible urge to grin.
"I-uhh-I just came to grab my papers, I have to do some work down at my office, and then I have a few lectures today also."
With a firm hand on her bag, she tried to slip past where the red head was standing. As she did though, Natasha's hand grazed her waist as the two moved in opposite directions. With a smile, Natasha said, "Have a good day!"
To say the encounter rattled Rhea was an understatement. The whole thing was domestic and set her stomach into a fit of butterflies. The worst part is that Rhea knew it would consume her day.
Some time later, as her class started to trickle in for her lecture on how HYDRA influenced certain historical events. The topic was fascinating, although a relatively new one to the professor. Historians were still trying to decipher what was the truth and the lies that the evil organization told.
Rhea's favorite part about this particular topic and history in general, was her students and how they took their own stances. It soon became a conversation instead of just her speaking mindlessness and them taking notes. Rhea wants the young adults learning to be able to actually find passion and interest in the subject.
Rhea was really doing what she loved and it made her happy. She thought that she was making a difference, however small.
The class was just dismissed when she spotted a familiar figure by the door. Trying not to alert Natasha's presence to her class, Rhea put a strained smile. She continued to wish them a good day, answering questions about the homework and due dates occasionally.
As soon as her class was empty, she joined to woman in all black. Bitting the inside of her cheek she raised her eyebrows in question.
"Nat, what are you doing here? You know that you could be seen and-" Rhea's worried rant was cut short by a soft laugh and a hand in her arm.
"You seem to forget that am I world class spy, I've been on the run before. Anyway it's not anything bad." Natasha's voice was calm and reassuring. Something that just made Rhea want to be close to her.
"Oh. Well I-I mean that's good. So uh, why are you here?" She hoped that her nervousness didn't come through in her words.
"Steve and Sam left to check in on Wanda, she didn't make contact. I sure it's fine though. She sometimes forgets. But um I was alone at the house and so I made some lunch and I brought you some." Her sentence was dotted by a tilt of her head and a smirk.
The gesture was sweet and welcome to the Lawson woman. And so they sat in her office and ate the lunch that Natasha had prepared. The two seated into a comfortable conversation, telling stories and making fun of the other.
They both had full hearts, accompanied by a familiar feeling of fear of falling.

𝐤𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐬!
Ugh I hate this chapter also should I include a variation of Liho (Nats cat from the comics)? And should I keep this story fluffy or do you want me to incorporate some dark elements into it? Do you guys have any feedback for me? Also I feel like I should say that I started this story out before the black widow movie was announced and will be sort of an Au where those events will not be part of the story (maybe we'll see)Thank you so much guys 💙
