The Fourth Feather
––––––––––
The two chatted as they walked along until the feathers stopped. They took a break and yawned, eating a bit and sharing some food. The raven seemed to take its time, so they waited, chattering until the familiar croak broke through the air.
Zephyr was quick to get up, watching it as it flew by, dropping another feather. This time, it was green. The trail was a bit brighter, leaving a glow as it traveled along the gravel beside the beach.
"That water isn't one of my deepest darkest fears right?" Zephyr jokes, nudging Wren with his shoulder.
"Of course not! Do you want it to be?" He smiled and nudged back, following the trail.
"Nope!"
The two shared laughter, gradually growing more and more comfortable with one another as they continued walking. Everything seemed to rest at bay with each other as they walked along, eyeing around as valleys seemed to form. They were quite odd though... some were small and etched with figurines and others seemed to lack the qualities to even be called a mountain/hill for the valley.
"This is pretty weird...imagine if this place was full of food. That would be nice..."
"Not wrong about that- WOAH- FOOD!!!" Wren perked up and ran to the tables of food that seemed to appear out of nowhere. The two were quick to start eating, ignoring the trail as the sky began to gradually darken.
They kept eating and eating until they were full, starting to disrupt the lands by purposely calling out things like they did only a minute ago.
Before you knew it, the entire land was full of balloon animals, candies, friendly dragons, weapons, games, and everything that seemed to fulfill their wondrous desires for satisfactory.
The sky was dark, thunder starting to crackle as they went on and on. They didn't seem to care until it started to rain. It wasn't any normal rain, however. The rain was literal cats and dogs, crashing down and leaving gore and guts all over the ground. Zephyr and Wren grew startled before making a run for it. Everything they brought into the land began chasing after them, attacking them in any way they could.
Even the weapons found a way to attack them, launching themselves forth like arrows as they tried impaling them. Zephyr seemed to be the only calm one in the situation, running past everything and jumping over the corpses that happened to land in his path. The blood on the ground made it hard not to slip, fall, and possibly die! Though they managed, keeping on their feet as they ran past.
On the other hand, Wren was screaming his lungs out, his hands held back as he ran like a rocket was pushing his back and making him go 1000 miles per hour (or more for that matter).
The feathers kept them in line though, helping them find their way out even as they had to roam a maze that came out of the bushes that suddenly grew.
Every cheat or wrong turn made pumpkins grow from the walls and run at you, baring their sharp stem-like teeth. Their eyes had fire igniting them, showing them life and power as fire roared out of their jaws.
"How big is this place?!" Zephyr exclaimed, angered yet scared at everything that was coming at them.
"LIKE I KNOW- I JUST WANNA GET OUTTA HERE!!!! WHY'D YOU BRING ME WITH YOU!?!!?!!?!?!" He shouted in fear, running his way out of the maze and gasping when he saw the last feather not far from them, "I FOUND THE WAY OUT!!!!"
Zephyr was quick to dash out with Wren, and they both plopped down as the beasts and such grumbled before going back and vanishing into thin air. The land shifted back into what it was before. It was a land full of lies yet wonders.
"Well...at least now we know not to use more than we need and want things just for the fun of it...can we rest?"
"Yea ...I'm dying..." Zephyr plopped down, resting his tired lungs and overall body, letting Wren do the same.
As they rested, the Raven left no time in flying by and dropping off its last feather, a wash of warmth striking its heart as it felt guilt. Who knew if they could make it... but it could help no further.
