Once we make it into the studio, I plug my phone into the Auxiliary cord. I slid my shoes off and got into my dance locker to be able to access some of my extras. I noticed Jett run off to slip into dance gear. I started to run through my choreography of "Heavy." I began to add it moving on to the next few phrases pulling my notebook.
"I know I'm not the center of the universe" I ran my hands down my face from to place them on my chest
"But you keep spinning 'round me just the same" Turning stage right I throw my hands down to my sides on 'the same'.
"I know I'm not the center of the universe" I make fists pulling them to my chest slowly.
"But you keep spinning 'round me just the same" I roll my body rolling my hands up to the sides of my head.I heard clapping after I go through the old choreography and new. I smile at Jett watching me jogging over.
"I thought you were changing?" I smiled.
"I was but when I came back you were so into it. I couldn't help but watch," He smiled shyly.
"So, what style do you think you want to do?" I smiled at him.
He scrunched his face, "I don't know. I love hip hop and jazz. What do you think?"
"I would say hip hop. You can tell stories with hip hop like you can with any other. We can through some jazz into it as well," I smiled as I popped over to my phone.
"Any song ideas?" He asked almost nervous.
"Well, what type of story do you want? Do you want to make them happy or what?" I looked at him between scrolling through songs.
"I'm thinking I want to express self-preservation and rebuilding oneself when the world seems against you," He nods. I click on "Live Your Life" by T.I. Featuring Rhianna. We sit down listening to music. He gets a big smile, "I love it. It's perfect."
"It's long. I normally would edit it down, but I don't think he wants us to so if you did half you'd be fine. I mean I'm doing just part of the song for mine because it's a three-minute song. This one is almost 6 minutes man," I pause it.
He slips on some sneakers before having me hit play. He started facing the back doing a type of two-step thing from side to side turning around. During Rhianna's singing part, he does a simple jazz choreography. When Rhianna goes into "so live your life," he popped his hands as if he said what then dropped into windmills. I didn't know he had some B-Boy in him. He managed to bring me to tears with him freestyling. He danced the full song, between breaking, traditional studio hip hop, and jazz. He was out of breath chest heaving with the end. His end was perfect, he did a bit of animation, rocking forward as if there was a wall pushing him back, but feet sat in place.
"So, why'd you need my help?" I asked whipping my tears.
"I didn't think I could do it. I couldn't think of a song, but that song is perfect," He smiled. I laughed softly.
"I recorded it so we can pull the video so you can learn your choreo," I smiled. He nodded thanking me and emailing himself the video from the computer I had set up in front of me.
"I got to get my choreo finished," I thought out loud. He smiled readily with the pen to write what I did as he realized I did that earlier. I ran through what I had before continuing.
I'm holding on" I run forward leaping as if someone was there to catch me
Why is everything so heavy?" When no one catches me I land on one foot rolling to the ground and back up
Holding on" I cave my torso in rolling my body to stand upright
So much more than I can carry" I walk towards stage left as if gravity became heavier with each step
I keep dragging around what's bringing me down" I turn towards stage right twice
If I just let go, I'd be set free" I do a cartwheel followed by an aerial
Holding on" I reach forward towards the audience as if I was reaching for a hand
Why is everything so heavy?" My arm buckles causing me to retract with my body sinking.I know I'm not the center of the universe" I jump my feet to second position arms out to the sides of my hips I then grip my head
But you keep spinning 'round me just the same" keeping my hands on my head I do a backward turn ending facing away from the audience
I know I'm not the center of the universe" acting as if I snapped my neck with my hands
But you keep spinning 'round me just the same" I finish the fake snap with a spin to the front as if I screwed my head back on
And I drive myself crazy" I rock my head side to side and my arms up at my side bent one fist upon down alternating
Thinking everything's about me" I walk forward I smack my head then place a fist on my chestHolding on" I grab up to the sky
Why is everything so heavy?" I lower myself in a split
Holding on" my body collapse on my front leg for my split
So much more than I can carry" I spin my legs to behind me
I keep dragging around what's bringing me down" I pull myself forward with only my arms my face showing a struggle
If I just let go, I'd be set free" I spin my legs around me once more to the front.
Holding on I grab my head.
Why is everything so heavy?" I let my body to lie back on the stage
Why is everything so heavy?" I set myself up
Why is everything so heavy?" I place my elbows on my knees and head in my hands.I was nervous to look at Jett once I finished my dance. I did anyways he just sat in awe. His cheeks were stained with tears as he saw my pain for the first time, I showed I was real. I had tears going down my cheeks by the end of the dance.
"What do you think?" I look at him nervously.
"It's great. Who hurt you so bad?" He whispered the question as if he didn't want to ask. My back stiffened and I eyed him cautiously.
"Why do you think someone hurt me?" I whisper defensively. He shook his head not pressing it.
"Nothing, the dance is amazing," he smiled at me. I nodded grabbing my things feeling my day catch up with me.
"I have to go. See you in class," I whispered grabbing my bag and notebook running to my dorm. I needed to numb myself now or I will not be able to stop what will happen tonight.
