The boy was on fire

Green flames danced across the entirety of his body, creating a smoke that was beginning to choke the sky. Through the flames, I could barely make out his face, contorted in an anguished scream.

I gripped my service weapon firmly in my hand preparing for the worst. Breathe, I chide myself. " calm down or ill fucking drop you," i heard an officer scream. " don't make us shoot you," I heard myself scream. My voice sounded different to my own ears, I could hear my own fear. Breathe I chide myself again trying to still my shaking hands.

Through the flames, I could see him, a boy no older than nine years old, I've heard that is the age most demi-humans go through the change. Some of them morphing into grotesque monsters and others awakening terrifying abilities like this boy.

He was yelling something.

"Boy, please." I whispered to myself

He took a step forward.

"Breathe." I say again

The flames were beginning to spread towards the patrol cars.

"Stop." I prayed

I could see his mouth moving as he took another step.

A crowd was beginning to gather, yelling and screaming all around me. Local residents from the fields all with unique deformities

"Stop!" I heard different officers yell.

He took another step forward.

For a moment his eyes met mine.

Faintly I could finally make out what he was saying.

The flames shot towards me.

And everything exploded.

After the explosion the world was silent.

In my hand was a smoking gun and a bullet had extinguished the luminescent flames.

In my mind I could finally hear what he had been yelling at me.

"Help me, I'm scared." I heard in his faded voice.
