"Rise and shine, princess buttercup, you're not gonna rot in your bed every day now you've graduated, are you?" Stiles moaned, "I so didn't miss your way of waking me up, every fucking day." "Language..." A messy head of chestnut brown shot up, "Did you just Captain America me?" The sheriff just grinned, "There's coffee in the kitchen, I'm taking a shower before my shift." Stiles groaned as he sat up, "Coffee sounds like a good idea right about now."

He graduated from the California State University in Sacramento three days ago, a doctorate degree in Applied Behaviour Analysis, ladies and gentleman. He was starting as criminal profiler with the Beacon Hills sheriff's department in another three days, not because his dad was the sheriff, but because he damn well deserved it after four years of studying. That's what eventually got him up and out of bed, and as if that on itself wasn't big enough of a challenge, getting down the stairs with his eyes closed was downright suicidal. He made it anyway. He poured coffee in his Batman-mug, took a sip, and spit it right back out. "What the...", he looked at the tin standing next to the coffee maker, "Decaf dad, really?" He was on the verge of mass murder, but a knock on the front door stopped him. "I sure as hell hope that's someone I know, elsewise answering that door in my boxers is going to be very awkward", he muttered leaving his cup in the kitchen.

"Okay, I'm gonna start with saying that I'm not a morning person, like at all, and I haven't had any real coffee yet soooo-oh lord." Stiles was gaping, he was more than happy to admit that, but the man on his porch wasn't doing anything less than stare either. "Stiles?" "Wha- Derek?" The other man smiled, "The one and only, I didn't expect you to be home." Stiles was still looking like a deer in the headlights of a humongous truck, "Well, yeah, I graduated three days ago, but oh my god, Derek, where have you been all this time? I am so happy to see you!" A hug, a firm one at that, "Oof- Careful there, Sti, you're not 11 anymore!", Derek said, still adjusting his grip so he was bear hugging Stiles as well. Stiles giggled, "You're one to talk, Hale, you look like a caveman with that beard!" He let go of Derek's neck and walked back into the house, "Why don't you come in while I go put on some clothes, huh?"

...........................................................................................................................

He came back downstairs to find his dad in the kitchen pouring himself and Derek a cup of coffee. "I wouldn't drink that if I were you, it'll be one of the biggest disappointments of your life." His dad frowned, "What in the name of sweet baby Jesus are you talking about?" "Decaffeinated coffee is like a hooker who only wants to cuddle, hypocrite and absolutely ridiculous." Derek snorted, "God, I missed you." His dad threw the poor man a glare, "Don't you encourage him, I can barely shut him up as is." Stiles chuckled, "What brings you here anyway, Der? Finally learned how to take vacation?" Derek cleared his throat and looked at his hands self-consciously, "No, actually, I quit my job in New York, I moved in a loft near the woods yesterday, I- I'm a Beacon Hills deputy again." Silence. Very long silence. "You're staying? Like...permanently!?" A shy smile and a barely visible nod, "That's the plan. You...are fine with that, right?" A face of utter confusion morphed in one of absolute joy, "Fine with- Oh my god, Derek, of course I'm fricking fine with it! I haven't seen you in ten years and now I hear I don't have to miss you ever again! You've literally made my year."

Stiles really meant it, after that tearful goodbye 10 years ago, he had been heartbroken to let Derek go. Having him back was like living in Disneyland, like actual rainbows and unicorns. And this time he was never saying goodbye again.
