A/n: A kind of lame start to the supposed 'smut' book. Don't worry, I am trying to write some smut right now! I just wanted to write som fluff and then develop it into smut, but it took too long writing the fluff bit, so I'll just publish that, and maybe make a part 2 (with the smut) if requested! I just really wanted to write about Morty because he's such an underrated character! (And there is hardly any smut about him.)

acrophobia: phobia of heights
nyctophobia: phobia of the dark

You knew it was irrational. You were a grown woman, newly bloomed out of childhood. Children should be afraid of the dark and of other trivial matters, not you. It was a miracle that you surpassed the gym in Violet City. Admittedly, the only vertigo experienced was on the platform up to Falkner, after that, you were too far away from the ledge to feel anything more than a quickened heartbeat from being so high. However, Ecruteak City's gym was different. There was only a thin pathway to walk along, with no sidebars to hold onto. Below was smoky darkness, a drop which made your knees weak just thinking about it. The darkness accompanied this, and the morbidly placed lights were too dim to uncover all of the walkway, so most was engulfed in darkness. You had approached the gym many times before, the path was so long that Morty was a mere speck at the end, but you could feel his smirk from the other side of the gym. You could never work up the courage to make your way across the room to him, your raging paranoia was too much to bear. Once you had tried to ask him to turn the lights on, much to your dismay he quickly shot down that suggestion with a smug tone.

It was an Autumn day when you decided to build up the courage to defeat Morty once and for all and wipe the grin off his face. The air was crisp but you only dressed lightly, as you knew the panic you felt caused your blood to boil, and you ended up with a headache from the heat. You clenched your fists as you strode into the gym, hesitating for a moment as you approached the ledge which led onto the path. You knew you shouldn't look down, but you did, and that was your first mistake. The ledge seemed so high up, your legs felt like they gave up beneath you, your throat ceased up. You couldn't breathe.

Gasping for air you tried to inch forward onto the path. You failed, instead you caught the edge of the drop with your foot, causing you to stumble to the ground, your leg half off the ledge. You felt like screaming, but your throat was too tight to do so. Warm beads trickled down your face, the saltiness alerted to you that you were crying. The sudden fall made your heart stop in your chest, but now it was hammering against your ribs as you pulled yourself back onto the platform. But the images of you falling shot through your mind, you couldn't bear to stay another moment. So you fled. Again.

It always ended up like that. You were knocked off your own pedestal the first time this happened, your ego was ruined. The number of times this happened destroyed your dignity. You couldn't even look at Morty anymore.

You were a failure.

Intrusive thoughts flooded your mind, drowning each thought with feelings of self-doubt and insufficiency. You felt mentally destroyed by it all. You secluded yourself for weeks on end, unable to progress in your journey. Camping out on route 37 for so long only pushed your down more. Of course, there were other campers, though they moved on in a matter of days, no one had stuck around longer than you. You hardly left your tent, you couldn't even go into the City anymore, in fear of running into Morty. A month had passed since your last attempt of 'challenging' Morty. You were a lot paler, and you had lost weight since you were only surviving on dried food, even your eyes seemed duller. It was painfully ironic that you almost looked like a ghost yourself, the thought causing you to bitterly laugh.
