JOLLY sat beside a sleeping Satira from where she laid in the infirmary, priding himself in being able to help her before she lost too much blood.

"Pace..." she mumbled in her groggy sleep.

"Shhh. You lost a lot of blood," Jolly said as he stroked her face.

"Where is..."

"He's outside..." Jolly smiled sadly. He had lost. In a way he knew he would. All he could do was thank her for turning him into a better man.

"Hey Bianchi. Thank you."

"What... why...?"

"You changed me. You made me feel something after years of feeling empty. I guess what I'm saying is I love you."

"Jolly..."

"Shhh. It's okay. I had no chance."

"You did..." Satira's hand stroked his cheek. He kissed the inside of her hand, smiling bluntly.

"Thank you. Hopefully now I can be as good of a father to Elmo as you've been a mother."

"You're a great father..."

"I wish that were true..." Jolly mumbled, getting up from his seat.  "I'll go get Pace for you."

"No. I don't want him to see me like this."

"Sorry to tell you, but he already has." Jolly smiled as he exited the room, a single tear falling from his eye.

She was almost his. Almost had to be the saddest word in the dictionary.

"PACE," Jolly said as he neared him from where he was sitting on the ledge of Felicita's statue.

"Jolly, is she alright?"

"Yes, but she doesn't want you to see her the way she is."

"She can be stubborn like that. Did you get the prosthetic I bought?"

"It'll work just fine, but are you sure this is what you want?"

"She'll be sad when I leave, but I can't have her do something stupid trying to save my life. It's better if I just go home and live out my final days there."

"You know she'll follow you."

"I know. But I need you to make sure she doesn't."

"I can promise you I'll try."

"Thank you, Jolly. For everything."

"Don't thank me. You should be hating me."

"I'm a dying man. It's time to forgive and forget." Pace stood up and gestured for Jolly to shake his hand. Jolly shook it, smiling at Pace.

"Good luck," Pace said as he walked away, slinging his pack around his back.

"Good bye."
