Ashraf's POV
Saturday, 3rd of October 2017.
It was 7:25am when my mother walked into my room and tapped me "Bir tanem, wake up".
I groaned and rolled over only for my face to come in contact with rays from the morning sun that shone brightly into the room.
Why didn't I draw the curtains after praying this morning? I thought to myself. My mum turned and looked at me. "Bir tanem, you don't want to be late now do you?. I was lost because I didn't have a clue on what she was on about. She smiled painfully before the water works began. "Mum why are you crying?" I asked feeling scared and confused.
"You are leaving me today" at that moment, realization hit me hard but I smiled any way. That is who I am. My smile is my very own personal mask.
"Mum, that doesn't mean I am dying" I said trying to lighten her mood her eyes met mine and she chuckled. I wiped her tears with my thumb and held her hands. "I will always visit you. You can also visit me, we can FaceTime each other and by the way, we will still be in the same country and state. It's just a forty minutes drive you know".
She hugged me for some seconds and whispered "it will never be the same anymore." I went rigid. That statement made my heart crush into pieces. I know what she meant. And the thought of it made me sick. I wanted to tell her that she was wrong but deep down somewhere, I knew that I was deceiving myself because she is absolutely right. Why is this always happening to me? I just have to be strong for her.
"mum did you say something?"
"No my dear I didn't". I stood up from the bed, hugged her properly and said "Don't worry mum, everything is going to be alright". I assured her and tried my best not to cry.I forgot to mention that my mum and I are very emotional except the three siblings that I have.
"Come on now freshen up, get prepared and come downstairs." She ordered
"Okay mum"Indeed Allah is great just some few months back our lives changed who could have thought we will be living a luxurious life?
As I was about to enter the bathroom, I turned to see my suitcases and other stuff by the room door "college life" I sighed and hurried into the bathroom.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was cleaning up my room when my mum called me "Bir tanem, come downstairs"
"I'm coming mum just a sec!!!"I wore a maha lace top and jeans. I packed my hair in a tight bun and draped a veil. I lasted my dressing with a pair of sandals and applied a little amount of lip gloss not caring much about makeup.
I rushed downstairs to the kitchen and kissed my mum on her cheek knowing I am about to get an earful from her.
"I'm sorry" I said holding both my ears. She just glared at me and went upstairs to do what I don't know.
I stared at the varieties in front of me. There were pancakes, omelette, sausages, fries, oats, and orange drink. My mum knows me soooo well. I am a foodie and I can proudly say that. After eating I washed the dishes and went upstairs to pick my suitcases, brought them downstairs with me, went outside and placed them in the car trunk.
I went back to my room suddenly feeling emotional. I didn't realize when tears began to flow down. I moved to my study table where I kept our family pictures. In the first picture was my dad, my mum, Ahmad and I. In the other was mum, Sanah, Neena, Ahmad and I. "I miss you guys especially you dad." I whispered. I've always been the daddy's girl.
"Bir tanem, let's get going"
"Okay" my voice cracked instantly regretting why I answered her.
"What's wrong? Are you okay?" She asked rushing to me. When she saw what I was holding, she collected it and kept it back gently. She didn't say a word to me. We stood there for a minute before she broke the ice.
"We are paying a visit to Dr. kamran" I wanted to reason with her but she beat me to it."You are not saying a word young lady. Now move let's go" she dragged me out of the house and pushed me into the car.
