Chapter Six
'Blood in the Bonfire'

"Are you even shocked right now?"
"Nope. I've reached peak levels of bitchy-ness that I've just become numb to myself."

    Fire is hot

Fire is hot. Fire is warm and it hurts when you touch it. River Valley loves fire.

Every year in Mystic Falls, the teenagers gather in the forest and have a big bonfire which includes a lot of alcohol - the best part in many people's opinions.

Since River and Cove have resided in Mystic Falls for quite some time now, they've racked up their bonfire party resumes.

Make a keg stand time record? Check.
Light some guys hair on fire? Totally.
Make out with a stranger deep into the forest? Oh, you best bet.

The siblings are quite known for their adventures during these parties - in fact, it's become a big reason for many students joining in the festivities. Just to see what the Mackenzie Siblings would get up to this year.

Leaves crunched under River's shoes as she made her way into the party area, passing by groups of obviously drunk minors who were all staring - after all, it was the River Mackenzie.

Walking up slowly, River made her way to the fire, her eyes baring deep into the flames as they flickered and floated, the ashes rising and drifting into the distance. Oh, how River wishes this sight could be everywhere.

A warm hand came up and lightly touched River shoulder, the brunette smiling softly as she heard her brother's voice.

"I do hope you're not gonna try and light the town on fire, right, Riv?" Cove smirked, stepping up next to his sister with a bottle in hand, taking a quick swig of the liquid, "because that'd be a hard one to clean up."

Breathing out sharply, River stared into the flames, "I'm in the mood for some mischief, Clover. A... murderous mood."

Cove watched as his sister slowly brought her lips into a smirk, the boy rolling his eyes, "Well then. Pick someone."

The Valley sister's eyes wandered the crowd as she looked at multiple people. Little did they know, she wasn't looking for a hookup... this time. She was looking for blood.

"Him," River whispered, lazily throwing a finger in the direction of some brunette boy with green eyes, him smiling at her when they made eye contact.

She waved, patting her brother on the back as he went up to a random girl, compelling her.

"ʏᴏᴜ ᴡɪʟʟ ɢᴏ ᴜᴘ ᴛᴏ ᴛʜᴀᴛ ʙᴏʏ ᴀɴᴅ ᴛᴀᴋᴇ ʜɪᴍ ɪɴᴛᴏ ᴛʜᴇ ᴡᴏᴏᴅs. ʏᴏᴜ ᴡɪʟʟ ᴋᴇᴇᴘ ʜɪᴍ ᴏᴄᴄᴜᴘɪᴇᴅ ᴜɴᴛɪʟ ᴍʏ sɪsᴛᴇʀ ᴀʀʀɪᴠᴇs."

The blonde girl nodded in understanding, making her way to the boy seductively, taking his hand and pulling him into the woods.

Making sure no one was looking, River made her way into the other side of the forest before speeding off into the direction the two humans went.

Coming to a quick stop in front of the couple making out against a tree, River smirked as she walked up to them, the blonde suddenly leaving as per Cove's compulsion.

"Hey, what's the problem?" The boy smiled at River, leaning back against the tree, "feeling jealous? Yeah, I've seen you eyeing me up all night."

Trying to hide her disgusted expression, River simply smiled back, stepping closer until it was her pinning the boy against the tree, "Tell me, what's your name?"

"Jacob," he breathed out, looking at Rivers' lips as she spoke, "I'm a year older than you."

The brunette girl slightly quirked an eyebrow at his words in amusement but responded, "Really? Well, I have to say that you have beautiful eyes, Jacob."

She leaned closer as he did the same but the whisper that came out of her lips next was unexpected, "But you have an even prettier neck."

"ʏᴏᴜ ᴡɪʟʟ sᴛᴀɴᴅ sᴛɪʟʟ. ʏᴏᴜ ᴡɪʟʟ ɴᴏᴛ ᴍᴀᴋᴇ ᴀɴʏ ɴᴏɪsᴇ."

Shoving her head into the crevice of his neck, River's fangs pierced the surface of his skin as she began drinking the thick, red liquid.

As she continued, River felt Jacob's body slowly go limp until the brunette eventually collapsed into her arms, his body being a deathly pale.

Humming lightly, River tossed the body into a bush by the path, leaning back against the same tree as she took out her phone, using her camera to wipe away any residue from her dinner which might have stained her skin or lips.

"Now, I wouldn't exactly talk to a stranger I met in the forest," a teasing voice called out as River whipped her head around, narrowing her eyes at the shadowy figure standing at the edge of the forest path, "but that was pretty hot."

Glaring even harder at his words, River snarled, "Who the hell are you!"

A burst of wind flew into River's face as the strange figure appeared in front of her, his blue eyes piercing her own, "Now, I don't think you need to know that."

Her defensive instincts kicked in as River slammed her foot against the opposing vampire's chest, his body being knocked violently back as the brown-haired girl rushed behind him, stopping his fall and pinning his face against the bark of the tree.

"Now, stranger, it seems like we have a little problem here. What you are going to do is tell absolutely no one about what you saw tonight or else something bad is going to happen," she hissed into his ear as the strange body squirmed under hers.

"And what?" The man said, strangely still sarcastic, "what are you going to do?"

Reaching up next to his head, River snapped a branch off of the tree, holding his body in place with her knee as she snapped it in half, forcefully driving the wood into the back of his neck.

A gurgled noise left his throat as River stepped back, twisting the stick before pulling away.

"Shit you don't want will happen."
