The Sunday had just begun. I was sitting with Arya, and after about fifteen minutes when I could finally wish a farewell to the last shreds of my sleep, I asked, "When did you wake up?"
She shrugged, "Its been half an hour, I guess."
I asked with the slightest amount of interest since I knew she must have been thinking about Manthan, "What did you do apart from making tea?"
She exhaled, "Nothing much, just some memories," and before I could pop up another question she asked with feigned enthusiasm, "so what's the plan for today?"
I could anticipate that she wasn't interested but just to behave normally, she had been doing all sorts of things that she never did while she was with Manthan. She was one of those people who would never initiate an outing. She loved her room and the comfort she got there. I picked up my phone and started scrolling the social media, "No plans at all. You say. What do you want to do?"
She immediately replied, "I need a drink, actually five or six drinks."
I laughed, "Yeah, five or six, and then you'll howl, cry and rant his name all around the pub. You remember what happened last time, right?"
She was clearly embarrassed and threw a cushion at me, "That was only once, I don't do that normally. It was because it had just been for three days. And why the hell did you people decided to take me to the pub? We could have bought the bottle here itself. At least, it wouldn't have been such a scene in front of those hot men."
I giggled at her situation. "Yeah! Those hot men who were initially giving you looks and once you started howling they immediately lost all their interest."
She snickered, "You remember that guy, the black shirt one."
I recalled, "That french beard na, he was damn sexy! And he was totally into you. I thought he'll soon make a move but once you started to cry, he ran away..." and we both burst out into a guffaw.
Arya exclaimed, "He must have been thankful to God that he didn't make a move!"
"You know all these men, they find certain things cute and bubbly in women and once they get into the serious stuff, they start finding and labelling the same things as 'annoying'."
"Yeah! They are so fickle. I mean, they like everything about you initially, all your crazy stuff and quirks, but after a time being, ask them what do you like in me, and they'll be completely blank. In fact, that craziness, which they liked in us, that seems as immaturity to them after a time." Arya agreed with me, then continued, "Though, I admit, the things I did that night, weren't cute..."
"They were weird and actually annoying." I filled in the gap without feeling a bit of regret.
She gave me a mean look initially but then concurred, "I agree! Even I hated myself."
"Amay and I loved it. So many memories from a single night out." I laughed at her again and she joined me this time.
She chimed in as soon as she heard Amay's name, "Where is Amay? He's coming today, right?"
I shrugged, "Maybe. Must be sulking at his house that we didn't call him. And since, we've shifted together he's left out. You know his little head, cooking up stories all the time."
She complained, "You're so cruel. Why didn't you call him?"
I protested, "It just slipped my mind. I didn't intend to hurt him."
She smiled, "Why would you ever hurt him? You always try to stay away from him so that it doesn't hurt you."
I gave a completely unsympathetic look as if asking her to illuminate her twisted words. She continued, "That's simple, isn't it? Don't give me that look. You like him, you like him a lot, but you're just staying away from him. Trying to avoid him every time, which I don't know why. See, I should demand an explanation here."
A kind of discomfort grew inside me immediately. This woman knows me even more than I do. She will understand all my emotions before I would understand them. I knew there was no point in attempting to hide since you cannot hide a thing from your own shadow, but I still tried, "I don't know, I never liked him."
She explained her point, "I didn't say that you liked him, it's entirely that over the time, you've grown fond of him. You really like him being around now, you like his company, his care, his protectiveness, moreover, everything about him. You may have started it from a different point but now, you're at a different stage."
I took a deep breath. I didn't know what was disturbing, the way Arya spoke those things, without any filters or the fact that she had actually spoken the truth. Well, we always spoke without filters it meant that it was the truth that was disturbing. I looked at her serious face, "What do you want me to do?"
She stated simply, "Confess these things to him. Both of you look good together."
"I can't. You know I can't do it."
She gave me look as if saying, 'really? You're saying that? My fighter Kashish?'
I inhaled as much oxygen as I could and continued, "See, Amay is a good man, I love this bond which we'd grown together, and I don't wanna ruin all this with a relationship. You know, commitments don't come alone, they are a complete package of jealousy, possessiveness, complications, etc. etc. and then, we all are so good together, you, Amay, "
"You're being impossible." She rolled over her eyes. She then said, "Call him, we'll all go together and we both are still not finished, we'll have this conversation later."
She got up and hugged me, "Everything's gonna be good. Things will be okay between the two of you, only if you try giving yourself another chance."
I nodded and then remarked, "We're going to that same pub?"
She growled, "Don't you dare!"
She went inside the washroom to have a bat and we got busy with our routines.
