The Storm

7 years later

I feel my teeth sink into the young deer's neck as I bring him down to the ground. He struggles for a few more seconds before I jerk my head to the side, effectively breaking his neck and ending his life.

I shift back into human form and begin to drag it's now lifeless body to my small hut. I'm 12 now, Wyatt is 10 months old. We thought it would be for the best to keep a more permanent but portable, in case of emergencies, residence. It's nice to have a place to go to at the end of the day. It brings some stability to my ever-changing life. We've only had to move twice since then and we made our home 5 years ago.

I reach my destination and sit outside, skinning, cutting, and cleaning the deer. Once done, I dry and store it.

The hut is made of fallen tree limbs in a cone shape. They are tied together at the top with vine and covered/wrapped in deerskin. It sets in a small clearing by a creek and cave.

The late spring has brought shady leaves to the trees and life to the now less barren land. The only sound is the birds, wind, and water. I can tell from the look of the sky that it is going to rain tonight so I take anything damageable into the cave for storage.

The sun is setting and night animals begin to awaken and make their presence known. I can hear the thunder rumbling in the distance as I shift and curl up in my home for warmth. My wolf can smell the rain as it gets nearer.

"This isn't gonna be a normal rain," He tells me, "There's a big storm coming. We should get to higher ground to avoid waking up in a flooded creek."

Silently agreeing, I begin packing. I wrap all my belongings in deerskin and collapse my hut, tying it securely. I hike through the storm, the rain washing away tracks and scents. Unfortunately, that meant I couldn't sense that I had crossed over into a pack territory until I heard the growls of guards and see a high ranking wolf, probably Beta, order them to surround me before my stress, hunger, and exhaustion cause me to fall into complete darkness.
