I find myself once again waking up in a hospital bed with my Mum sleeping on the bed holding my hand. I shake my hand waking my Mum. She groggily looks up and immediately wakes up as she sees me looking down at her.
"Oh my beautiful Sahara ,God has answered my prayers and you are back to me. You died and I thought I would never see you again". I join in with her sobs as she hugs me tightly ,I enjoy the way she smells and the way her hair feels on my face.
"Detective Smith is coming in to talk to you about the Fatal Gang". My heart sinks when I remember what happened .
I let go of the hug and lie back down as Detective Smith walks into the room .
"Its good to see you again Sahara. We were very worried about you".
His smile doesn't reassure me
"We were very convinced that they had killed you , but luckily we were just in time so that when they shot you we had the paramedics on hand".
A tear slides down my face as I push myself into a sitting position.
"Just in time? They shot me ? Have you always been such a liar Detective Smith or are you just covering your ass". My Mum grabs my arm, "Sahara!".
"No Mum . I wasn't shot by any of the members of the gang. I wasn't even caught in a crossfire. I was shot by a police officer when I went to investigate the loud bangs that I had heard".
Detective Smith looks flustered , "Well Sahara do you want to meet the man who saved your life by telling us where the Fatal Gang was located?".
I look away from him, "Well I would love to meet him". My Mum cheerily states.
I hear footsteps behind me , I hear a male voice.
"Nice to meet you Mrs Schade".
"For safety reasons we shall just call this young man Zeus". Detective Smith says
I snap my head towards him . His face seems familiar. Then it clicks , at the Exordium and Rebel Gang confrontation standing behind Brent was this man.
Detective Smith notices that I have turned my head and then directs Zeus to me, "This is Sahara".
"Hello Sahara", he extends his hand towards me.
I just look at him. "Sahara don't be rude ,this young man is the reason you are here right now".
"Detective Smith I never knew you consorted with gang members".
Detective Smith looks at me , "Yes Sahara; Zeus is a gang member however while in custody he proved to be useful in providing the location of the Fatal Gang but if he is making you uncomfortable then I will ask him to leave". Detective Smith leads Zeus out the door.
"Look Sahara I can see that you are still a little shaken from your ordeal but I must ask you some questions about the Fatal Gang".
I turn my face away from him
"What else do you know about them Sahara? The doctors found a lot of injuries on you , did they inflict them on you?".
"Honestly I don't remember much ,they never told me their names . I was in a small room for the majority of the time. The injuries occurred when I was beaten up by the Rebel Gang. I'm not even sure that they are the gang you are looking for".
.
I can feel tears build up inside of my chest so I shield my eyes , "Detective Smith do you mind if we talk another time .I am just really tired and I find it really hard to talk about this whole ordeal".
Detective Smith gives my mother a sympathetic look as he leaves the room.
"My poor Baby , it must have been terrible for you these past few weeks". I just nod. I don't know what to tell anyone.
"Are you excited to come home? The doctors say that you can come home tomorrow", I smile at my Mum and she smiles back.
I close my eyes and allow sleep to override my confused mind.
********
3 weeks later
The phone rings . "Yes? Oh hello Detective Smith. Yes.I will just ask her if she is up to it".She places her hand over the phone speaker.
"Sahara , Detective Smith would like you to come down to the police station to answer a few questions". I silently nod at my Mum.
"She said she will come down. Thank you very much Detective Smith. See you soon".
As we arrive outside the police station nausea fills my stomach.
"Hello ladies, Sahara would you come in here with me". I follow Detective Smith into a small interview room.
"Okay Sahara I know that these questions may be hard but I would like you to try to answer them".
I nod my head ,"I will try my best".
"Good, first question. Do you believe that you can identify the man who killed Clare Collins within the "fatal" gang?".
I hesitate. I don't actually know who killed Claire. Kassim stabbed me but what if he didn't actually kill her. Also if I sell them out will they have someone come find me and hurt my family. Ambrose did promise that my betrayal would lead to death. I decide to lie instead.
"No ,I can't identify the man who killed Clare".
Detective Smith just nods and writes down my answer
"Next question Sahara . We already know that they kidnapped you however do you know if there was intent to kill you?".
Again I hesitate before answering .
"I don't know if they intended to kill me from the start but I am glad that they didn't".
"Okay Sahara that is all , you can go now".
I stand to leave the room but a nagging question gnaws at the back of my mind.
"Detective Smith ,what is going to happen to the men you arrested?".
Detective Smith stands and places his hand on my shoulder .
"They won't ever hurt you again Sahara , I promise".
I know he thinks he is being reassuring but I just feel worse . I smile at him as he directs me out the door. I am greeted by my Mum and we drive back home.
I fall onto my bed and stare up at the ceiling .
"Sahara come eat some dinner". I stand up and sigh. My body exhausted from not having slept normal since I got home.
I sit at the table and stare at the food in front of me not feeling hungry.
"Today the courts reached a verdict for the Fatal gang. The judge determined that the Fatal Gang show no possible signs of rehabilitation and all 9 members have been charged with 54 charges of first degree murder, 108 counts of robbery , kidnapping , intent to murder and other crimes. The judge has sentenced all 9 members to life imprisonment awaiting the death penalty. They are to be moved tomorrow morning to BlackHold Prison to serve their sentence ".
My Mum and sister hug as they celebrate the verdict.
A wave of anger, fear and determination washes over me as I realize what I must do to save my family and I.
