'You're SUPERMAN' I could distinctly hear Marcelo's voice over the others. Oh, boy they've cornered him, I started pacing faster towards the cafeteria.
'I play Superman' Henry replied patiently, he sounded amused but was as polite as ever. I knew that would win him points with the team.
'Yes, we know. You're Superman' It was Pepe, and the others were giggling, as if it were the funniest joke in the world.
'Stop bugging him' I called loudly as I reached the cafeteria gates, not realising that Cristiano had matched my pace and was stood next to me... a little too close for comfort. Everyone turned to look at us and my face felt a little warm.
'Hey, are you okay?' Henry asked, concern clear in his voice and he didn't seem to give any regard to Cristiano and I's physical proximity. He quickly walked over to me, his eyes scamming me up and down as if to see if there was something broken or bleeding. I could feel everyone's attention shift from Cristiano and me to Henry and I and somehow this was worse.
'I'm fine babe, just a little tired and very hungry' I smiled at him, my most sincere smile. Henry smiled back, relieved and leaned into give me a kiss. It wasn't a passionate kiss but it was sweet, it was loving, it was raising eyebrows and I could feel the atmosphere shift in the room, especially next to me. The warmth of Henry's body did nothing to overpower the chill I felt when I sensed Cristiano stiffen.
'You want to eat and then we can go or would you like me to take you to breakfast elsewhere?' Henry asked, tugging a stray hair behind my ear.
'Either is fine, but first, let me introdu–' I was interrupted by Cristiano shoving his hand towards Henry. 'Hi, I'm Cristiano Ronaldo' he said in a strange voice, as if challenging him to a duel.
'I know, Its an honour. I'm such a fan' Henry took his hand and shook it. 'I'm Henry Cavill' he said and Cristiano nodded letting go if his hand.
'And you both are together?' Cristiano asked gesturing between us and Henry nodded. 'Yes, we are' I could hear the defensiveness in my voice but the sentence was already out and there was no redemption.
'Let me introduce you to the rest of the team' I said hurriedly, I needed to get Henry away from Cristiano before he made a scene, but Henry wasn't listening, he wasn't even looking at me. His gaze was fixed at Cristiano and this time it was Henry who was challenging him to a death match.
'Henry' I called, this time loudly. 'Let me introduce you to the team' I half begged while tugging slightly at his hand. I was desperate to put physical distance between them both, ideally one of them would be in Spain and the other here but right now 3 meters would suffice. Henry simply nodded still holding Cris' gaze. I subconsciously put my hand on his shoulder which seemed to break the staring match as he finally looked away from Ronaldo to me, his expression softening although his eyes were curious, they were searching for something he knew was there. I decided in that moment that I'll tell me him everything as soon as we leave here.
'Come on' I said gesturing towards where the boys were standing, I was genuinely excited for Henry to meet them and for them to meet him. As we started working towards them, I could feel Cristiano's eyes on my back making the hair on my neck rise. I knew what he was capable of when he was jealous and upset, and I didn't want to lose Henry.
'So how do you feel about letting your girlfriend work here? With us?' Cristiano had caught up to us and there was an edge to his voice, which I knew meant he was seeking to create trouble.
Henry turned to face him, a surprise look on his face. He spoke before I could say anything, 'I don't understand what you mean by that, besides, I'm not the kind of person to tell people, especially those I care about where they can and cannot work or what they can or cannot do. She is the cleverest person I know, and is capable of making good decisions.. except perhaps checking herself out of the hospital to go help the world' he said coolly, giving me a little smile, and gripping my hand tighter. This would've been enough to alleviate the anxiety I was feeling but knowing Cristiano I knew he was not going to let this go.
