CHAPTER ONE
THE DOUCHE AND THE DAMSEL☆☆☆
hawkins, indiana didn't have much. No big tall buildings, large malls, 7/11's, wild action, or much commotion of any sort really. But it did have the worlds biggest douchebag, Steve Harrington. And his favourite thing to do was pester the worlds biggest introvert, Clem Warner. Somehow he and his idiotic friends always found a way to ruin Clem or her friend's day. You could blame it on the fact that there wasn't much else to do in their dead end town, or you could face the fact that Steve Harrington was just a plain ol' asshole. Many went with the latter, and truer, of the options.
Even on a day like the current Thursday mid morning, September 12th 1983, Hawkins high school seemed to have no power over the scenes Steve and his friends seemed to cause daily. "You know Tommy, Clem seems to be lonely over there. Do you think we should join her," Carol said in a sickly sweet voice clearly planning something from a few tables down from Clem. Her boyfriend snickered and their clique was soon strolling over to the blonde girls side. They slid into the empty seats next to her, Steve sitting upon the table top, and all stared at her. "Aw. Feeling lonely over here Clementine; you know, since your loser boyfriend isn't here to eat with you and all," Carol asked mockingly.
Clem just rolled her eyes and continued to pick at the food in her lunch bag. She wouldn't give into them. "Oh yeah where is he again ? Probably out taking some more pervy photos like he did of Nancy. How'd you feel about that by the way," Tommy laughed wildly. Clem was beyond annoyed now. Her boyfriend, Jonathan Byers had taken some pictures of Nancy and her friends last week but it wasn't meant to be creepy. She trusted him and knew that to him photos spoke louder than words. She might not be able to understand why he took pictures of the things he sometimes did, but she wouldn't question it. That was just who he was.
But of course these jockstraps didn't get that. "You guys stop. I mean, Jonathan probably didn't take those pictures to be a weirdo perv," Steve began. Clem couldn't believe he was actually saying this. I mean, since when did Steve Harrington defend anyone. She was actually feeling a change in heart. Or that was until he opened his mouth again. "He's probably just trying to cover up the fact that he's a queer with his stupid little nudie pics," he sneered causing his friends to lose it with laughter.
Clem had had enough. Without saying anything she harshly scooted her chair back and shot up, quickly grabbing her things and storming off. She could still hear Steve, Tommy, and Carol in the background but she didn't bother looking back. Instead she headed for the back of the school behind the bleachers where she and Jonathan met. She paced back and fourth for eleven minutes before finally she heard footsteps crunching against the autumn leaves. And soon her boyfriend was in view.
As soon as he was in sight Clem walked over and wrapped her arms around him nuzzling her head into his chest. "I hate them," she mumbled as Jonathan returned the hug and began stroking her hair softly. He placed his chin on the top of her head and said nothing in reply, but Clem knew that he knew that too. She didn't even need to explain for him to already know what had her in a bad mood.
"What did they do now," he asked sounding unfazed by the fact that they were being jerks... again. Clem just shrugged. There was nothing to even explain, it was just the same old same old. "I'm just so tired of them. I mean Carol has the brain the size of a nut, and a heart the size of a germ. And Tommy doesn't even have a brain. And Steve... their stupid ring leader Steve. God Steve Harrington is the biggest pain in my ass," she seethed. Jonathan chuckled and sat awkwardly underneath the bleachers bringing Clem with him.
"Don't let them get to you. They're bound to do stupid things. It's just in their nature. Only one more year and then we'll be free of them so spend that time packing up for college instead of worrying about them," Jonathan said. Clem sighed loudly into his neck because she knew he was right. It was just so hard for a girl like her to exist with idiots. She deserved better. Jonathan deserved better. "Ugh can we just ditch today Jon ? Go get a milkshake or something," she begged. He kissed her cheek but shook his head. "Don't give them anymore reason to think you're affected by them. Just tough it out for two more periods and then i'll take you after school," he responded.
Clem groaned but followed along with Jonathan as they walked back into the school together. She knew he was probably right, but even a millisecond of being near them was a millisecond too long.
