"I saw a wolf," Mako said, her words trapped between her quick leap through the back door and the slam of the door behind her. Viv winced, looking up quickly, her eyes widening at her friend's claim. She set down the mug that had been cupped between her fingers, standing. "No, wolves. There were two of them."

"What!? Where?"

Makp pointed towards her back yard, and Viv scrambled to look out of the window above the sink. All she saw, however, was an empty expanse of grass before the forest line hit, shaded and cool. No hint of the wolves could be seen.

"They were there, I swear on it. A black wolf, pushing another. I think it was red."

Viv turned to Mako. She didn't doubt her friend for a second, but she couldn't help but be aggravated that she couldn't have seen them. Or taken a picture. She pulled away from the window, pouting to herself, before she walked back to the kitchen table and sat down again.

"If you ever see them again, or any other wolves, be sure to get a picture for me, yeah?'

Mako smiled, finally moving from the doorway and sitting down in the chair opposite of Viv.

"Will do, beb. But I can't promise you anything - this is the first time I've seen them, myself . And I probably won't see them again."

Viv picked up her mug once more, sighing inwardly in content as the warmth covered her fingers again. It was slightly less hot than before, but she didn't mind, sipping at her tea and resisting the urge to glance out the window again. They sat in comfortable silence, and when all the contents of Viv's mug were drained, she bid Mako a farewell and went home.

It was still as devoid of life as when she left, making her shoulders droop slightly.

She wished she could just share a house with Mako and Noah.
