Serenity sat on her couch looking through her and Warren's wedding albums, and thinking back to the day she married him, two years ago. Tears slowly strolled down her cheeks as she looked at each picture, reminiscing about that very special day. How he rented the island and made sure it was the perfect setting. Then thought about their beautiful wedding vows, the I do's, and how for their reception, he rented a yacht, and how elegantly beautiful and romantic it was. The longer she flipped through the pages, and seeing how happy they were then, she felt she couldn't look anymore at their most happiest time, and sighed heavily while closing the photo album. She looked down at the pile of albums sitting on the coffee table, and picked up another one, this time grabbing an album labeled random pictures. It was one she didn't recognize, and knew it had to be Warren's.
She was about to open the album, but closed it quickly when she heard someone walk up from behind her. She quickly turned around while wiping away the tears that were messing up her makeup, thinking Warren was finally home. Seeing who it was, she felt bummed, saddened, and turned back around, taking a deep breath, "What did you need, Parker?" she quietly asked her butler. She didn't want him seeing her cry, and for him to report it back to Warren, if that's what he did.
He cleared his throat, and stood straighter, "This just arrived for you ma'am," he says, walking around the couch, and handing her a large box.
She took the box from his hands, pushed the album that was on her lap away, and set the box on her lap. "Thank you, Parker, you may leave now," she says, staring at the large rectangular box that was nicely wrapped, and tied with a big red bow.
She knew immediately it was from Warren, since that was the only person who would be sending her any gifts, but wondered why he would send it now, and not just hand it to her when he got home. Especially since he wouldn't be home for another two days, and whatever he sent her, which most likely is a dress judging by the box, she thought, would do her no good at this moment. She felt all it would do would hurt her even more, and debated about opening it to see what he sent her this time, causing her to stare at it even longer.
She sighed, and slowly unraveled the bow, slid it off the box, then lifted the top off the box, setting it down beside her. She then removed the white tissue that laid on top, covering what was underneath, and gasped when she saw a rose lying in the center of the box over a black chiffon dress. She covered her mouth, and picked up the single red rose, smelling it. Her eyes closed as she smelled the flower, remembering all the times he used to bring her red roses home after being gone on flight, then opened her eyes, and looked down wanting to see what he picked out this time. As she lifted the dress to see, the box fell to the ground, and she kicked it off to the side.
She liked the v neck, open back look of the dress, and then noticed the long slit along down the side of the dress. She then wondered why he sent her something so elegant, if she couldn't even wear it for another couple days. She heard footsteps behind her, lowered the dress, and froze. She could hear the footsteps coming closer to her, and was about to tell Parker to go away, until she felt someone lean over the couch, pick up the red rose she had sitting beside her, and held it underneath her nose. "Hello Serenity, my beautiful wife, hope you like your new dress."
A gasp escaped her lips, surprised to hear his voice, and closed her eyes wanting to smile, "I do," she whispered, thinking this was all a dream.
He kissed her on the cheek, and whispered in her ear, "Go try it on, I've got plans for us tonight."
Her heart was beating fast, and then she suddenly felt numb. She couldn't believe he was home, and couldn't believe he was there for their second year wedding anniversary. She turned her head to the side, rolled her eyes up to see if it was really him, then looked down away from him, and looked back to the dress she was holding in her hands. "I thought you forgot what day it was."
