"You know, I love you, right?" She whispered to him in such a soft voice that if he weren't giving her all of his attention, he would've missed it. But he was giving her all of his attention and he did hear it and it made his head spin and his heart squeeze.

"Yeah, I know." He spoke in such a cocky manner that if any other guy were to use that tone they'd come off as rude but somehow it sounded just right coming from him. The girl rolled her eyes but she smiled and nudged his ribs with her elbow.

"You're supposed to say it back." Despite the nipping cold wind, her cheeks were warm with embarrassment. She refused to look at him and instead kept her eyes focused on her dangling feet. The two lovers were sat at the top of a public playground, specifically at the top of the corkscrew climber. They would have to slide down the pole when it was time to go but neither of them wanted to leave each other. If it were up to them, they would stay at the top of that pole and just die in each other's arms as old age took them. Unfortunately, that would not happen because they were unaware of who was under them at the bottom of that pole, hidden from view.

"Yeah, I know, I just-", the boy stopped himself. He wanted so badly to tell her he loves her. He would scream it at the top of his lungs until they burst and his throat was bleeding but he just couldn't shove the words out. They got stuck at the back of his throat and stayed there, suffocating him with this guilt that his sweetheart showed her vulnerability by confessing her love and he couldn't do the same.

"Yeah, I know." She was finally able to look at him and offered a soft smile. She felt him tense up when he attempted to say it back. She wasn't expecting him to say it back, she only told him she loves him because she wanted him to know. He needed to know he was loved. Though she didn't want to say this in fear that she would sound stupid. He smiled at her and planted a soft kiss to her forehead and they both felt their bodies warm up with happiness.

While all this was happening, the uninvited visitor, Jair, was under them crying. Jair was very much aware of what was to happen within a few minutes and it was unfair. That's the only way Jair was able to put it: unfair. The happy couple above Jair were just two teenagers in love and they didn't deserve what was about to happen to them.

"Well, you know, it's getting kinda late. We should get going." The boy suggested. His sweetheart shook her head and nuzzled herself into his arm. He didn't want to go either but they both snuck out to see each other and he didn't want her to get in trouble.

"I'm not tired." She protested in a sleepy mumble. As if on que, her body betrayed her by yawning. He chuckled before kissing the top of her head. Warmth and happiness soared through them once again. Jair could feel their love radiating off of them and for the first time in years, Jair felt a little bit of warmth herself. Their love was just that strong. And none of this was fair.

"Come on, let's go. We can hang out tomorrow." He nudged her and she slowly removed herself from his embrace. She wished she could stay in his arms forever. He wished she could hold onto him just a little bit longer. She wiggled towards the edge of the platform and grabbed onto the climber. Since it had its corkscrew shape so she would be able to properly sit on it and slide down. Even though it was an easy process, the boy held onto her hips to ensure she wouldn't fall.

"Ack!" She let out a squeak as her foot slipped a bit. He accidentally dug his nails into her skin as this happened. She let out a tiny hiss of pain from his nails. He probably tore through her skin.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry." He wanted to pull her back into his arms and kiss her and comfort her until she was better. She instead just smiled at him and assured him she was fine. She again made sure her feet were secure before finally sitting on the corkscrew-like step and then she slid down with grace. The boy didn't know he was holding his breath until his chest began to tighten as she was sliding.
