Cold feet was such a drastic term. She didn't regret saying yes half a year ago but maybe this wasn't the right time to get married.
She had gotten reassigned a new partner on this ongoing drug lord case and his last book wasn't such a hit. Timing seemed like it was off. She hated this feeling.
Her growing faux locs were tied into an updo on the top of her head, exposing her slender unblemished neck. Her makeup was done and everything on her looked perfect despite how she felt on the inside.
She wrung her hands in front of her, attracting the attention of her sister, Camryn.
"Little sis you gotta calm down. Everything will be fine," Camryn reassured, rubbing lotion on the bride's arms.
"Cam, you don't know nothing. I'm fine okay."
"Look, I'm sure your man's over there just as nervous as you are."
"I'm not ner- You think so?"
"I'm positive ole dude is shaking in his dress shoes right about now," the older girl laughed.
Max thought for a second then shook her head. "Naaah. Tristan's always been good in stressful situations. He's always so calm and level headed. I'm able to count on him in situations like this. Makes me wonder why he wasn't the detective in this relationship," she chuckled.
"Max, he's a good dude. You picked one of the good ones… even if he can be a little corny, but y'know that's how most white guys who like le chocolat are." Camryn smoothed down the white dress for the tenth and final time then stepped away.
"You're so dumb, Cam. You can't stay off my man's head for one day huh?" She spun in front of the mirror.
"Ha! You think just because it's y'all's wedding day I can take a day off? Nah boo boo, if anything I'm doing overtime."
