As I glanced upwards, pleading that this was not someone who knew me, I was slightly relieved to discover that I had never...
"Hey, you look unwell. Are you feeling alright?", the mysterious girl standing before me asked.
Unsure of how to conduct myself in this situation, I managed to get a single word out. However, it was a word so foreign to me, I did not even realize I had said it until it escaped me.
She insisted on staying with me for some reason until we got to where I needed to go. I must have looked like a lost puppy. A pitiful and lonely lost puppy. The journey on the train was about forty-five minutes so there was plenty of time for me to mull over my complete lack of awareness to the situation I was in. A girl, who I had never even met before today, was sitting beside me as this train blasted down the track to a town I did not even know. Either all my lucky stars have come together at once, or I'm about to be punished for thinking something so good could ever happen to me without there being a catch.
As I sat on the train, in a daze, I began to take in my surroundings. The train was not really anything extravagant. There was the usual carriage format with a table for refreshments at each set of seats, not unlike what you would see in Harry Potter oddly enough. However, we were not on the 9 and 3/4. There were not many on the train, which was not surprising considering it was the weekend. It was just me, this girl and an old couple. We were on opposite ends of the train so it isn't as if we couldn't talk to one another, it was just really awkward for me.
I was able to guess pretty quickly that she was around the same age as me from her demeanor. She was quite small for her age though. If I had to make a guess, she may be around five feet tall. Her hair is pretty short and has a light pink hue, almost as if it's cotton candy. She's also a bit more on the petite side but for her body type, she seems pretty healthy. Why do I always delve into weird thoughts? She's quite pretty and seems really nice but why did she do this for someone she doesn't even know? Just as I was about to ask her...
"I didn't do this specifically with the intent of helping you out you know."
I was filled with quite the amount of shock as she said this. Obviously nobody has to help me if they don't want to but I was kind of hoping that maybe for once someone actually had a bit of an interest in me or my life. Not in a romantic way. That would just be a hopeless train of thought from the start.
"I can't tell you why we ended up meeting. Well, it was a complete coincidence. It's not like I got lost or anything! Shut up!", she exclaimed as if I had started jeering her or something.
So she got lost. That would mean she isn't from my old village, wouldn't it? What a relief! For once I might have a clean slate with someone I've never met. She does seem a bit apprehensive though. I don't think I'm doing anything out of the normal.
"Would you please get out of that head of yours and talk to me?!", she semi-demanded.
"S-sorry.", I mumbled as I scrambled to find a topic of conversation.
I decided to try and talk about the weather. Bad move. She looked at me with a look that probably pierced my soul.
"You seriously can't think of anything better to talk about? You've got a young beauty sitting next to you and the weather is all you can think about?", she cockily asked.
Little did she know how much torment I had been through with thoughts of the opposite sex today. That girl had not left my mind for a second since I woke up this morning, and she's part of the reason why I am in this mess in the first place. Although it was a Saturday, I noticed she had some semblance of a uniform on. Then I remembered her saying she got lost, albeit in a roundabout way. Judging from her reaction when I talked about the weather, I needed a new topic fast.
"S-so where a-are you from?", I finally managed to ask.
"So now you want to stalk me?"
Wow this girl is insistent on me dying of embarrassment today, isn't she? It's almost as if she is a teasing master!
For the majority of the journey, she was either teasing me or lambasting my use of the English language and my stuttering. When I asked for her name she said, "Do you really need to know? I swear you must want to stalk me with all the information you're looking for!", before she took me by the arm and dragged me into the town. Reluctantly, and probably as a result of having nothing much else to do, I went with her.
"It's Natsuki."
