“There are two clans.” Jake huffed as he scooted into the booth at the I-hop.     “The Likos, and the Lamia. The Likos are a clan of hybrids. A mix of wolves and humans. Werewolves if you will-”

“Afternoon Jake!” A peppy brunette girl walked up to the table with a bounce to her step that quickly faded when she saw me. I recognized her from school. Molly Sambers. A preppy cheerleader that thought she owned the school, a mortal enemy to Amber and something even worse to me. “Freak,” She raised her eyebrows and put an evil twirl to her lips. “What can I get you handsome?” She looked at Jake and put a quick smile to her thin lips.

“We’ll both have two chocolate chip pancakes and a side of bacon.”

“Cheese sticks too?” I found myself asking, I hadn’t realized how hungry I was.

    “And some moza-sticks.”

    “And to drink?”

    “Cokes.”

“Where was I? Ah yes. Werewolves. A mix of humans and wolves, Likos. Hmm. Okay. Likos are mostly Greek with very, very few interruptions of the bloodlines. I happen to be one of those few interruptions, therefore not being a complete wolf. Yet. Only three pure bloodlines remain. The Amara, the Xylia, and the Kineta. All three consist of only four people two boys and two girls. That’s the only thing that keeps a family’s bloodline pure-”

“Wait. If they’re the same bloodline isn’t that like incest or something?” Jake let out a laugh at my confusion. “No. It’s a bit much to explain so I’m only going over a small bit of it now. I’ll tell you about the Lamia tomorrow after all of what I tell you settles in. Though I suppose you’d have to know about the Lamia before I tell you of what happened.” he rubbed his chin. “Hmm. Well we have spare time.” He smiled as he saw Molly coming back with our plates and drinks.

“The Lamia are bloodsucking creatures that-” I cut him off with a hand in the air so I could finish chewing my food. “I want to know about the Likos first. Then the Lamia, then Death. I have questions and you have answers. So today is set on the Likos. Tomorrow the Lamia, and then Thursday can be the story of what went down. Deal?” Jake nodded his head, chewing his food. He was slouched over his plate, his fork hanging limply in his hand. “Ask away,” he said through a full mouth.

“Death called you by a different name. Ambrotos, or something along the sorts. Meaning?” Jake’s eyes bugged out at my question.

“I didn’t think you caught that. We’re in a boatload of trouble now.” He huffed under his breath. After swallowing his food he placed his elbows on the table and pressed his fingertips together, resting his forehead on them. With an audible exhale of breath and a you-really-shouldn’t-be hearing-any-of-this tone he continued; “The Likos are Greek. As before stated. Each family has a completely Greek name that means something. The name you heard “Ambrotos” is my name. It means Immortal.”

“So does that mean-” I started,

“Let me finish and I’ll answer your question.” After a pause he continued.     “My last name, as you know, is Dysis. Means sunset. My name translated, as you know now, is Immortal Sunset. Yes, it means I’ve lived longer than anyone on this planet as of now, no it doesn’t mean I can’t die.” I felt my eyebrows scrunch together as I took a bite of chocolate pancake and slipped the bacon onto Jake’s plate. “Though it would take a lot of will power and force to kill me. We are to go by human names, and change them every fifty years, because humans aren’t to know of our existence. I don’t know what my mother was thinking when she adopted.” he put air quotations around the word. “she put you in more danger than you can imagine.”
