Chapter Eleven
All Convinced
"Popular artist Jade Leeman broke down on stage during his second concert in Crement last night. That was shortly after he was seen giving the middle finger to band leader, Rudurhans Kakaya during the concert. Something is definitely up with the band, particularly with Jade. While this doesn't top the first night in Crement's incident, when Jade passed out on stage, it likely has some sort of correlation. Some are speculating there is some sort of falling out going on within the band. Others suspect all three incidents revolve strictly around Jade's health. Fans leaving the Exved concert venue two nights ago were told Jade had passed out due to dehydration. Last night, in tears, Jade revealed he was, in fact, not taking care of himself."
The babbling news reporter on the widescreen TV in the hotel lobby room was minimized to the side of the screen and a clip of the concert from the night before was shown, Jade drying his face, then lifting the microphone and saying softly, "I'm sorry. I-I haven't been keeping track of myself lately. These-these interruptions..." he broke off and glanced behind him at Rudurhans, then turned back quickly. "They're my fault. This-this wasn't the way it was supposed to be." Again, he glanced at Rudurhans. Then, taking a breath. "I need to keep track of myself better."
The news reporter took the full screen again. "While most people believe the young star's health issues are due to omission, some speculate he's actually sick. Dietician, Anne Sefreth, affirms from photographs that the seventeen-year-old musician has lost significant weight from the time at which the current tour began to the present. Such sudden and significant loss, Sefreth says, is often an indication of serious illness. Whatever the cause, we'll keep you updated. I'm Nathan Welles, this is The Crement Broadcast."
Weather came on the television, and as it did, Jade's attention strayed away from the screen. He had been nervously watching it, filtering it for anything terrible, but hardly hearing anything that was said.
"You should have been there last night, Puppy," Amber broke Jade's already incomplete strings of thought. "It was fun as hell." She dropped into the cushioned chair next to the one he sat in, and took a bite of the pear slice she was holding.
A nice breakfast was laid out in the lobby room of the hotel floor Eclipse was occupying, and four of the five members of Eclipse had assembled in it for one reason or another. Jade, because he wanted to see what the news had to say about last night's disaster but somewhere besides alone in his hotel room; Amber, because she was hungry; Jude, because he always appreciated food; and Fentra, because he was downright hung-over and wanted lime wedges to suck on before the day began.
"Seriously," Amber said, turning towards Jade and grabbing his arm. "If we go again tonight, you should come."
"Hell yeah, we're going again tonight," Fentra put in, his voice partially slurred because of the citrus fruit he had between his lips.
"You should come," Amber said, giving Jade's arm a yank.
"No..." Jade said faintly. He finally took his eyes off the TV he had some time since stopped paying attention to, and glanced at her. "I need to sleep..."
"You go to bed, but you aren't sleeping," Amber sighed. "At least, you don't look like you've slept. You went to bed early last night, but you don't look like you slept at all."
"I didn't really," Jade sighed. He turned away.
"Well then party with us tonight. First of all, it's a better use of your time than lying around in bed and not sleeping-and it may also help you sleep afterwards. I always sleep really well after a party." Amber smiled.
