Katiya Carpenter's Point of View:
"You're right. He seems like a nice kid." My dad said as Jack pulled out of the driveway around 3 o'clock. I sent Jack a final wave as he turned and he smiled in return. "Nothing like what I've heard of his parents." My dad said warily. I shrugged.
"Celebrate our hard work with dinner at Duke's? You can even invite Jack. Or Genny." I raised my eyebrows at him.
"Cmon. Spend some time with me, we don't have much left." He said. I shrugged again and leaned into his shoulder. We turned to walk towards the house. "I'm so proud of you, Katiya." I looked up at him.
"Thanks, dad."
"I know things haven't really... ended up the way we wish they had. But you've done a great job of handling everything. I'm sorry I'm not always there for you like I should be. Thank you, Katie." I smiled as he kissed me on the forehead.
"Thank you, Dad. For everything." He squeezed me a little tighter and let go before we walked into the house and I went upstairs to take a shower. It was nice to see him like this, sober and somewhat happy. I loved for the rare days like this.
The day with Jack had been good. He had actually shown up at 9am with coffee and a smile. He had actually worked hard the entire day, willing to do any task my dad asked of him. I was impressed. He was kind, and hardworking. My dad seemed to like him, and he also hadn't asked about Jason, so that was good.
The shower water was hot and I let it hit me for longer than I should have. I was exhausted after the day of work, and I hated to admit that I had actually enjoyed Jack being there. Jason had never even imagined doing something like that. Speaking of Jason, I had tried my hardest not to think of him after last night.
He was fucked. Fucked in the head. After everything he had done, he still felt he could say shit to me? No. I was thankful for Jack. Even though I hated fighting, I was almost thankful for Jack. It was hypocritical, but it needed to be done. I heard that Jason's nose was broken, but I hadn't communicated with him to find out. I'm sure he had texted me, but I hadn't looked at my phone all day. I reminded myself to check it after my shower and stood for a little longer before actually washing my body.
When I got out of the shower I had a few texts asking if I was busy and a few texts from Jason.
