Profile: Spotted Saddle Horse breeding includes a heavy Tennessee Walking Horse influence combined with bloodlines descended from spotted Spanish-American ponies. The breed was originally developed in Tennessee to be a reliable family horse with a smooth, comfortable gait for long trail rides. Today, the breed is shown as a gaited horse, typically in western tack, and is still popular for trail riding.
Characteristics: Spotted Saddle Horses are generally smaller and stockier than their Walking Horse cousins. They do not trot, but instead demonstrate a smooth, four-beat gait and must have white markings on their bodies to be eligible for registration.
