Warriors: The Tunnels of Destiny

Chapter 1

Shadowbreath gripped the stick in her mouth, biting down so hard that she splintered the wood. It was finally time for her kits to come and she was not feeling prepared.

"You are doing wonderful! A few more minutes and you will have two wonderful kits!" Fernpaw encouraged. Grasspelt just nodded and continued stroking Shadowbreath's stomach, coaxing the kits out.

Suddenly Shadowbreath felt a spasm of pain and gasped. A few seconds later, another spasm passed through her body. Grasspelt calmed her by telling her that it was a good thing, and it meant that her kits were coming.

Minutes slid by with Brokenrock popping in and out, and finally she was done. Two bundles lay by her side, and she sank further into her nest and closed her eyes. "Shadowbreath, you're done! Good job!" she heard someone meow, but she didn't really acknowledge it.

Brokenrock heard that the nursery had quieted, and he bounded inside and licked Shadowbreath's cheek. But then he noticed something. "Only one kit is moving! GRASSPELT! HELP, QUICKLY!"

Shadowbreath jerked out of her daze and lifted her head quickly. She realized that Brokenrock was right, and she didn't see much hope for the little black kit. When Grasspelt had skidded in, she just confirmed her fears. "He hunts with StarClan now." she mewed softly.

"NO!" Shadowbreath gasped, refusing to believe it even though in the back of her mind she knew it was true. Even she could not change fate.

"It's ok, Shadowbreath! We still have one perfectly healthy kit that needs its mother, and a name!" Brokenrock stated. She thought for a moment, still grieving inside, and then decided on the perfect name. "His name shall be Firekit, to show Tigerstar that we will ALWAYS fight back." she said. Even though the tiny kit did not look like Firestar with his white tabby pelt, she hoped that one day he would be the best warrior that've could possibly be.
