It was a surreal world where mythology was real and fantasies existed. Human kind lived in the era of royal patriarchy, decided fates, pirates, and with hints of magic. In this surreal world, creatures that were just rumours to humans, lived amongst the rest of the life. Under the roaring tides, and in the depths of the great rich blue sea, there were mermen.
Amongst their population, Jeon Jungkook was a young merman who had recently been crowned their king, due to the passing of his father. The former prince was not an ideal nor a wanted candidate as their next ruler. However, no one could deny him his right to the throne since the royal family held all the power. Whether the mermen lived in an era of peace and serenity, or in an era of the great depression where everything was in shambles, it depended on the actions of their leader.
Jeon Jungkook the 13th, lived an extravagant life. He had everything: a big castle, servants who did everything for him, and endless fortune and power. His powers were something that was never seen before. While all the Kings were much stronger than the rest of the mermen, they would really need to be something else if they wanted to control every, single, merman.
And that's exactly what Jungkook was.
Not only was his betrothed a strange looking human, but he also looked utterly different from the rest of his people. Jungkook looked heavenly, and he radiated an aura of a deity. Supposedly, that was the result of a merman King consuming a human soul.
Jungkook sighed in boredom as his eyes flickered around the room for some sort of entertainment. His gaze landed on the lowly peasant beside him, who was fanning him. As soon as his dark brown eyes met the unfortunate servant's gaze, the servant's eyes widened. Fear struck the servant, and instantly, he looked down so he would not have to meet Jungkook's intense and intimidating gaze.
His lips quivered in fear as Jungkook continued to stare at him. Inwardly, Jungkook smirked.
"You met my eyes," Jungkook began, as he leaned down towards the servant. Jungkook's long and luscious locks flowed gracefully behind him, and he looked enchanting. The servant, on whom his gaze was fixated upon, whimpered in fear. His hands shook, but he stayed put in his spot. He did not move, or look at the King who had addressed him.
His demise was inevitable whether he stood up for himself or submitted quietly. Rumours had it that if you did not rebel, fate would be less cruel.
Jungkook stared at the peasant for a few moments before he frowned.
"It's not wise for you to ignore me like that. Do you know what happens to those who defy me?" Jungkook said with vicious authority laced in his voice. Once again, the servant did not respond to him, much less spare him a glance.
Jungkook thought that the servant was a cocky and arrogant brat who was just like the others. The servant believed that Jungkook was not worthy of the throne, so he did not deserve his respect. And for this reason, Jungkook was so beneath him, that the servant could not even stand to look at him. While in reality, the servant did not look at him in order to convey his complete submissiveness to Jungkook. Afterall, the servants were made to believe that they were so worthless they did not even deserve to look at Jungkook, muchless speak to him.
Jungkook became infuriated, and he held out his hand towards the servant.
A ball of energy was starting to build in the palm of his hands. The servant who was the victim to it, trembled in fear as he felt the excessive amount of heat that radiated off Jungkook's hands.
"They get annihilated," He said, as he shot the beam of energy towards the servant, who was trembling in anticipation. It was not long before the beam burnt the servant, who ended up screaming in agony. On the seafloor where the servant was floating, were only patches of ashes left. Subsequently to this, Jungkook scoffed and fell back in his chair. At the moment, it was night time so after the extermination of the unnamed servant who was beside Jungkook, none more were left to kill.
"Everything is so boring," Jungkook said, and sighed, as he turned towards the lifeless floating figure next to him.
"But at least I have you, my dear [Name]," He cooed endearingly, as he stared at her with a lovesick gaze.
Jungkook was utterly and indescribably obsessed with his beloved human. She was everything that he wanted, and more. She was a gem amongst dust particles, and the only twinkling star that dared to shine on a starless night; she was the air that made him want to breath on dry land.
She was beautiful.
Jungkook was so obsessed with her that he even had her human legs tied together to make it look like she was a mermaid.
In Jungkook's eyes, [Name] was perfection except nowadays, she was also beginning to become boring.
She did not speak, she did not blink, she did not kiss or touch him; she did nothing.
Jungkook was insanely in love with [Name], and he believed she was in love with him too. He did everything for her: provide her with lavishing jewellery, robes of the merpeople, delicious banquets, and cherish and love her body. As a response to all of his care, [Name] simply stared into nothingness with her mouth and eyes constantly open.
Jungkook always wondered why [Name] never returned his benevolence.
He failed to realize that humans cannot breathe underwater, and the moment he had decided to make her his, was the very moment that she became destined to die.
