"Happy birthday, dear Averyyy! Happy birthday to you!"

"Blow out the candles, sweetie!" Mom smiles while holding onto the family camera. Avery excitedly grinned from ear to ear before blowing out the 8 sticks of burning wax. Before he could, Patrick slid in and blew them out for him, pushing the back of Avery's head into the cake. Avery's long hair, that went down to his shoulders, were dirtied with chunks of cake, and his face became almost completely covered. Mom and dad exclaimed but quickly jumped back to the sight of their terrifying son, laughing nervously. "Oh Patrick, can't you do your pranks somewhere else?" "You nearly burned Avery...!" Patrick didn't say a word, he simply smirked. To his surprise, Avery wiped the cake off of his face and immediately laughed, "Chocolate! My favorite!!" He turned to Patrick, holding out a finger covered with chocolate cake, "You want some?!" Rolling his eyes, Patrick walked to his room and slammed the door behind him.

His parents seemed to sigh in relief. The air relaxed itself as Avery cleaned himself up and jumped off his chair. He skipped all the way to Patrick's room, knocking anxiously, "Patrick...?" Patrick ignored him, turning up the music in his room. Avery knocked harder, "Patrick...?!" Patrick sat in his room quietly for a few more seconds. "PATRICK-" "WHAT?!" Avery giggled as Patrick angrily swung the door open. Looking up at his older brother with pride, he gathered up the courage to ask, "Now that... I'm 8... Can I join the Bowers gang?!"

"No-" as Patrick was about to close the door, Avery jumped in the way, "Pleaaaase-" "No they're dangerous people." Avery got even closer to the door, "But I'm 8 now! I can handle-" "I said No, Ave', you think they want a wimp like you?!" Avery's eyes widened at the word and he hung his head low. His small hands grabbed onto his locks and he nervously started to fidget. Patrick shoved him away from the door and quickly slammed it.

Avery put his hands on the door, peeping into the small crack. He wished he could be more like his brother; confident, decisive, a leader... Avery was just a normal child, and he believed Patrick was special. Avery believed his parents treated Patrick differently because he was responsible. Avery wanted to be like that too. He watched Patrick, studying his movements, quietly.
