James stares down at the creature he's holding as a knot builds up in his chest. The child looks up at him with wide brown eyes, giggling as she reaches for him with stubby arms. Her father swallows hard.
He isn't used to it- caring about someone other than himself. But Vivian is here now. She's a part of his life. And he'll never admit to it out loud, but his daughter has completely stolen his heart. The rush to protect her from anything and everything overtakes him.
"I'll always protect you," he whispers. She snuggles deeper into his arms.
