i am pretty sure you have one lying around, or multiple and hop around them, just - drawing random stuff.

there's nothing wrong with that, but you can use it actually to plan your stuff. doing your art without warm-ups or plans can be a little reckless, especially if you are planning to enter it to a big-time competition.

how to plan:

1. have a basic sketch of your plan.

it's always great to have a basic sketch, even if it looks like shit. we don't want the actual art piece curse, which is when your sketch is so beatiful yet your actual piece looks like a piece of garbage :)

( i have experienced this as well so don't at me. )

that's one of my basic sketch and if you look closely -

that fish looks so dead as fuck. and i didn't even care because c'mon man - and also, the hands are rip.

get rekt.

also highlight parts of the piece and list the materials and descriptions, example:

background: heavily inspired by lace and chinese traditional clothing, the landscape of the waterfall will seem to look like lace and ancient swirls surround the fallen warrior.

centerpiece: the warrior - dying. impaled on his abdomen with a fancy dagger. a look of anguish is in his face. has long hair, and a long beard like master xi fu.

other elements: sword, blood, tears.

btw, you can also put your mediums.

mediums: ink, watercolor and oil.

and that was random shit i put together lmao.

2. think of your art piece as a recipe.

and that means you write down the ingredients, the procedure and the outcome.
