A few hours had passed by since Gakuko and Kaicho left. I looked up at the ceiling to count the dots, but, I just couldn't, without thinking about Gakuko and Kaicho. Kimi looked at me, and tapped me lightly. "Yes?" I said. "Amano-sensei gave me a copy of a permission slip for you." "She did?" "Yeah. It's for a dance." I looked at Kimi. "What kind of dance?" "Father daughter dance." Kimi replied. I flinched a little. I knew Kimi couldn't go. Or could she? "I have to go home, May. I'll see you tomorrow in school." She sounded a little sad. I looked up. She stood up and started to walk out. She opened the door and walked out, closing it gently behind her. "Gackt?" Abeoji looked at me. "Hm? What's up?" "Can I talk to you in private for a second?" He nodded. I stood up and walked into the kitchen, beckoning him to follow me. I sat in the nearest chair. He walked into the kitchen and leaned against the wall. "What's up?" "It's... about the dance Kimi mentioned." "What about it, May?" "I don't know who to take, either you or Dad." Gackt replied, "You take your dad. I'll take care of Kimi." My face lit up. Tears started forming in my eyes "Thank you, Gackt! Thank you!" I stood up from my chair and hugged Gackt tightly. He grunted a little. I let him go and ran to his room. I bolted in and closed the door, then whipped out my phone. I quickly dialed Kimi's number. "H-Hello? May?" "Kimi, you're going to the dance." I replied, tears streaming down my cheeks and dripping onto the floor. "R-Really? With who?"

"Gackt agreed to take you, Kimi." Kimi replied, "Oh my God! Thank you, May! Thank you so much! I love you!" "I-I know." I sniffled. "May! Are you crying?" "Yeah." "Oh, May, don't cry over me." "I can't help it, Kimi!" I said as I burst into tears. "May... Do I need to go over there?" "Yes!" I cried, wiping the tears away with the back of my free hand. "Ok! I'll be right over! Bye-bye!" "Bye-bye..." I said as I hung up, laying back. I heard loud, rapid knocking, the door opening, and Kimi's footsteps. The door opened and slammed loudly against the wall. I slowly rose back up to see Kimi, her pastel pink hair a mess, and her golden brown eyes staring at me. I saw her smiling. "I came as fast as I could." She said, sitting next to me, kissing me on the cheek. "Thanks, Kimi." I replied, as Kimi wiped the stray tears away. "No problem. So, who are you going to the dance with?" "My dad. Who else?" "Obachan Akari's husband, Jiro-san?" "Kimi, I bet he'd be flattered, but, no." "I don't know any other guys you could go with. Toshi's dad, maybe?" "Kimi! That's Hiromi's uncle! Her dad's brother! NO!" "I'm kidding."

"I know, Kimi." I replied. "Sooo..." She said. "I heard Nozomi's going." "Akiyama?" She nodded. "The only Nozomi in the school." She added. "Is Hana going?" Kimi shook her head. "Mr. Hasegawa won't let her go, since they expelled her." I nodded. "Is Gakuko going?" Kimi shrugged. "She can't bring Kei, on account of that Kaicho's going to be alone. So she might pretend to be someone's sister." "Ah. Smart," I said. I nodded. "She'd probably go with Maiko." Kimi shook her head. "No?" Kimi hesitated for a second. "Maiko's dad... He's not around much. The only times I see him is when he's home." I was a little confused. "When? What do you mean?" Kimi explained, "Maiko's dad is in the military. The American military." I asked, "Which branch?" "I can't remember. Coast Guard, I think. He was born in America. He's actually Japanese-American," She looked at me. "I think Maiko told me he's going to be home for the dance. But she said he might not be. She doesn't know. Her mom doesn't know, either." Kimi looked around for a second.

"So? Who is going?" I asked. "Me, you, Nozomi, possibly Gakuko, possibly Maiko, and..." "What about Chiyoko?" Kimi shook her head. "Her brother is getting married that day." "Asami?" Kimi shook her head. "Going to America to see her grandma." "Hikari?" Kimi nodded. "Her dad took the day off." I raised an eyebrow. "Haruko and Haruka?" Kimi nodded. "Their dad is a substitute at school." I nodded. "Kyoko?" Kimi shook her head. "Funeral. Her aunt passed away." I replied, "Sad." I thought. "Kanna?" Kimi shrugged. "Her dad's the head of a company, so I don't know." I scrunched my brows. "Sumika?" Kimi shook her head. "Her dad passed away, remember?" "Oh." I thought again. "Yukina?" Kimi nodded. "Her dad is gonna be there." I nodded. "You know something, Kimi?" She looked over. "I don't know the parents of half of our classmates. Only Baru and Nozomi."
