The Return Book Two in the Dark Start series

Chapter 5

I looked at the creature and it started walking towards me. "Stay back!" I yelled and then it disappeared. All of a sudden something pushed me from behind and I fell to the ground and looked behind me.
The thing jumped on me and went to bite my neck when I held it away with one hand by the neck. It's drool dripped onto my face and I wiped it away and then it was gone again.
I stood up and then looked behind me, my shadow turned into the monsters shadow and then it popped out of the ground and slashed at my face. I ducked and grabbed the knife out of my pocket, and stabbed the creature in the side.
It screeched and then I pulled the knife out and stuck it in its neck. It whimpered and then disappeared, but it's howl was still loud. I put the knife back in my pocket and looked at Lory and picked her up and jogged inside.
I opened the door and yelled "Get the guns and watch the windows and doors, watch your backs too." I set Lory down on the couch and ran into the kitchen and grabbed a lighter.
I ran over to Lory and lit the lighter and brought it right under her nose. She smelt it and opened her eyes. Her hand shot out to choke me but I grabbed it and pinned it onto the couch near her head. "Someone help me pin her down!" I yelled and Jack came over and pinned down her other arm.
I brought the lighter close to her neck and her veins started turning black and popping out as she started screeching. "Shit..." I said and felt myself getting weak. I blinked and my vision started blurring. Lory started to take short breaths and then she threw up a slug and it flew towards the wall.
     It hit the wall and I put the lighter down and the slug turned into a random person and they ran at me. I stepped to the side as they swung at my face and I punched them in the kidney, and then went behind them and shoved them towards the kitchen. I pushed them against the counter and they grabbed a knife.
     They turned and swung at my face with the knife. I ducked and uppercut them and threw them to the floor. They rolled on the floor and then stood up and threw the knife at me. I grabbed the knife by the handle before it could hit me in the face. I walked towards them and punched them in the face, grabbed them by the shoulder, and threw them towards the fridge.
     They looked at me and I threw the knife and it went into their neck and they pulled the knife out, dropped it and fell to the floor. I touched them and they looked up at me and grabbed my arm and opened their mouth and went to hit my arm. There was a gunshot and Brent shot the person in the head and that's when the other monster appeared and snarled at me.
     I stumbled back and they picked up the person and disappeared. I turned and saw Brent standing there. I walked up to Brent and gave him a hug and said "Thanks man." He hugged me back and then I looked at Lory who was asleep on the couch. "It's spreading, building its army."
     "We should all get some rest, Joe you can come to my house and Jack come with us everyone else should stay here." Brent said. We all agreed and Jack, Brent and I walked out of the house and got in the cars. We started driving towards Brents houses when we saw a cop car on the side of the road and the lights were flickering on it.
     We pulled over and got out. I walked over to the cop car and there was blood on the steering wheel, but not a lot. I realized that it was Jakes van and I went to the back of the car and grabbed two pistols out of the back. I gave Jack one since Brent still had his and I looked at the ground and saw footprints leading into the woods.
     I followed the footprints into the woods and then I saw Jake on both knees and that's when another monster appeared right in front of him. It seemed as though the monster jumped out of the ground and it opened its mouth and a slug crawled out and landed on Jakes shoulder. I aimed the pistol at the slug and pulled the trigger. I felt a small pain and the slug shrieked.
     I ran at the monster and shot at its head. It shrieked and disappeared. I looked at Jake and stood up and pulled out a knife and ran towards me. He swung the knife at me and I grabbed his wrist and twisted it. He dropped the knife and I said "Jake! It's me." He looked at me and then hugged me. "I thought you were dead, how are you not!" He said and backed away from me.
     "I don't know" I lied and then said "Let's get you to your car." We walked to his car and he got it and drove himself home. Brent, Jack, and I got in our car and drove to Brents house.
