Making my way down I-79 towards home sweet home on a Thursday morning. I am glad to be out of the beast of some people call college. I can't believe I have passed another semester of college at Fairmont State University. I wish I majored in Biology and focus on plants. Sadly, I am a business major because momma thinks I'll have better chances in getting a job in the business field. I like the business major, but I don't feel confident in what I am doing. Maybe I'll talk to momma about switching majors, yet I know I have an idea of what she will say, and it won't be positive. I'll have to wait till I get home to find out what she has to say about all of this.Driving through sharp curves, potholes, and a few asshole drivers in between I made it to Exit 105 Jane Lew. Never have I been so happy to the exit sign, I signal right towards the exit. After getting off the exit and on Hackers Creek Road heading towards the house. Before I Head to the house, I pulled over to the 7-Eleven to get gas for my car Pan. Putting the car in park, I got out of the car and started pumping gas in my car. While pumping my gas, I look at Jane Lew, I think of my childhood. Jane Lew is a small town with two restaurants, post office, a small Main Street, and a few other things in between.
Getting back in my car I put my car in drive and drive to the house. Hopping on Route 19 towards the house. The road to my house is a rural stretch of road with some houses along the side, deer running across the road, and trees enclosing you in a tunnel of nature. Is a secure feeling.
Signaling on to 863 Rhododendron Road towards home I hope to god that those parents of mine arguing again. Sometimes I wished they divorced, because it had effected my older brother Adam and I. Both of us wanted to escape to their fiery clutches. Adam had brains and went to the Marines escaping that way. I on the other hand had escaped by going to college studying in what my mother wanted me to study instead of something I love. She had the desire to control me in everything that I do. Dad claims that she must be the boss of everything.
Guess I learned that the hard way, didn't I?
Yet, I feel as if I have been a puppet my whole life?
Never had a sense of identity.
Did I even know who was?
Approaching the hill to my house I put my car in four-wheel drive and drive up my risky hill up home. Driving up the hill is like driving up rugged terrain. Living in West Virginia all my life, the roads are a like patchwork jeans. Potholes and bumps everywhere. Like my hill on 863 Rhododendron Road. Driving to the top of the hill I parked the car in my usual spot house. I noticed that, Mom and Dad's cars were gone so was their stuff from outside the house.
No trailers.
No dogs and cats.
No outdoor furniture.
Strange.
Maybe Mom and Dad sold their stuff for extra cash?
Internally shrugging the thought of my head. I get out of my car and gather my bookbag, a suitcase of clothes and my makeup bag. Locking my car, I started walking up the porch setting my stuff down looking for my house key. I took my house key painted in purple nail polish. With a little click of the door I opened the door. Grabbing my belongings that I had brought with me and I realized that I have more things to get into the house. Upon entering the house, I noticed the house was unusually clean and the cats were gone.
That's odd. I thought.
Walking around the kitchen. I happen to see two notes from both Mom and Dad both notes addressed to me.
Dear Ivy Anne,
Your Father and I have finally decided to separate going our different ways. I got so sick and tired of him yelling and arguing with me. He never works hard enough for our family, so I decided to live with your papaw and start over. The house is yours to take care of. I moved out with the money I saved. Your father and I will help with the house bills, so don't worry about that. I notified Adam of our split by letter. I'm proud of him, for serving our country and you are doing well in school. One more year and you will graduate at Fairmont State. I'm Proud of you and I will always love you.
