Jivika~

Sitting on the first bench, I watched Sonika ma'am recklessly correcting the piles of math books ahead of her. One particular tick mark of hers was so harsh, that the page got torn, the crack unmissable. Sighing and grumbling about the poor quality of notebooks, she raised her head to watch the state of her class.

And her eyes stopped at the last bench in the corner of the class.

"Arnav!"

Drama. Drama. Drama.

I eyed the PISA question paper sitting on my desk.

Such. A. Useless. Piece. Of. Crap.

Nevertheless, I positioned myself comfortably, joining the other spectators.

"Arnav! Is this the time to eat your lunch?!"

Hiccups.

"Ma'am, that — hic — I felt — hic — very — hic — hun — hic — gry!"

She was flustered, but not angry. She never lost her cool. And that's how she was, even today. Mouth agape, she asked him to come up to the front and face the class. Inspecting his hair, she let out a cry of outrage.

"Wha — what is this?! When was the last time you cut your hair?!"

Judging by the length, I would say, about two to three years.

"This shall not be entertained Arnav!"

"Yes ma'am."

Her eyes scanning the class, she walked towards Prajakta and said something. However, it was so light, that even the stillness could not make it audible. As the latter handed her something, I could only spot a faint glimpse of red before she walked towards Arnav again.

What?

Her hands reached up to his hair, combing away the strands. Unlocking all the knots, she ran her fingers through his hair, neatly arranging it. Gathering a small lock of hair, she looped and secured it with a red hair tie, right on top of his head. Decorating the fountain with a striking red ribbon, she admired her handiwork, and so did we.

A unicorn. With a red horn.

"Maahi, his hair is following the school's uniform rules more than yours," snorted Kiara, catching the lack of a hairband on her head.

Popping her head into the class, Mrs. Nair proceeded to make an announcement. But paused on seeing the masterpiece ahead of her.

"Oh my!"

Chuckling and approving of Mrs. Sehwat's work, she continued, "Youth parliament members, practice during the eighth period in the computer lab. Be there on time," and rushed down the corridor.

After an uneventful lunch break and three boring lectures, we headed towards the computer lab, jumping down the flight of stairs.

Shaking my head, I muttered, "Kiara, stop jumping. Remember how you fell down the stairs and broke your nose in sixth grade?".

"Okay, Jivi-Ma!"

We waited on the steps, keeping an eye out for our snails to turn up. Laughing, Lavanya and Maahi made their appearance known to us. Raising my hand in question, I asked for an explanation.

"Remember how we were standing here and—and—"

Clutching her stomach, Lavanya signaled that she could not continue further. Maahi, coughing, tried to gain her composure back. Holding onto the beam of the stair she started speaking.
