When Gabby met James

"Bloody hell, Prongs. Knew that affair was gonna end in heartbreak" Peter Pettigrew looked upset at his best friend, James Potter, as he, Remus Lupin and Sirius Black were sat in a non-magical pub in Aston, Birmingham "yeah, what'd I do to make Lily cheat on me?" James sighed, then he looked at the door.

A small group had walked in and were laughing with each other, the only girl with them had light brown hair and soft blue eyes, then she looked straight at him with a shy smile "Merlin, she's beautiful" James breathed "mate, she's also a Muggle" Sirius elbowed him "your mum liked Lily and she's muggleborn" he shot back as the girl walked to the bar so she could order a drink "I'm gonna go talk to her" James got up after her.

Gabrielle 'Gabby' Southgate was more than a little depressed when she went to the pub with her National teammates, she'd had a rough time since Euro '96 when she missed a crucial penalty and England was thrown out in the Semifinals. Alan had suggested taking them to a local pub in Aston so they could cheer Gabby up as she'd been getting harassment from the press about girls in football beside men, Gabby had trudged down to the Red Lion with them and then saw a man her age with brown eyes and messy black hair wearing glasses looking at her.

She shyly smiled and looked away, a pink flush appearing on her face "hey, what got Gabby blushing like a little schoolgirl?" Les Ferdinand grinned "fuck off" Gabby glared "Gabz, you are blushing" Paul Ince grinned, earning a middle finger from the usually mild-mannered and polite Villa defender "Gab, go grab a drink" Alan suggested, reassuring his friend. Gabby walked to the bar and ordered a coffee when she looked up and saw the guy who had been looking at her.

"Hey" Gabby smiled shyly "hi" she said, wondering why he wasn't treating her like she was a disgrace to England "name's James Potter, you?" Gabby was surprised he didn't know who she was "Gabrielle, Gabrielle Southgate, everyone calls me Gabby" she caught Tony giving her his 'he's-like-me' look, he was a wizard like her National team captain. The last guy she had gone out with was like him and had cheated on her with a redheaded witch, breaking Gabby's fragile heart.

Gabby ended up really liking James and couldn't help but fall in love with the Potter heir, she then had to leave to go back to her normal life of training for matches and playing matches. But Tony gave her a way to keep in touch with James and soon Gabby had a new man in her life, but was able to keep this boyfriend a secret from the muggle press, except the Magical press caught on that the heir of the Potter line was in a relationship with a muggle athlete.

Thankfully, Gabby took it with the same ease she did when she had to deal with the normal press "Gab, d'you want to meet my parents?" Gabby was in an old Villa shirt and her pyjama pants on the sofa when James came back from seeing his parents "sure, what're they like?" Gabby smiled, his parents enjoyed Muggle things and his father loved their sports, especially football, he supported Aston Villa.

Going to Potter Manor, Gabby felt a little out of place in her Villa suit beside James who was in dress robes as they were invited to a gala at the manor for the Ministry of Magic "who is this, Potter?" A platinum blonde sneered in Gabby's direction "my girlfriend, Lucius. This is Gabby" Gabby gave a shy wave "she is dressed rather peculiar" Bellatrix Lestrange sneered, then Lucius recognized the crest on the pocket of Gabby's jacket.

"Gabby Southgate?" She nodded "you know me?" "My wife is a fan of Muggle football, she was disappointed about what the muggle press said about you for a missed...score is it?" Gabby shook her head, memories of that heartaching Euros semifinals were coming back "a crucial missed penalty" she sighed, Lucius looked actually upset about the torment Gabby was subjected to because of it.

"There's my parents" Lord Charlus Potter was similar to James whereas Lady Dorea had his soft brown eyes "Mother, Father" James smiled as he walked over hand-in-hand with the woman he loved "James, and this must be Gabrielle" Gabby smiled gently "I prefer Gabby, sir" she said, earning a sneer from the man near to Lord Potter "a muggle animal" Gabby hadn't been so insulted in her life "Barty, she is a wonderfully talented athlete in her world. It is football you play?" Dorea said "yes, I play for Aston Villa Football Club."

It had been eight months since James had first lain eyes on Gabby the day she and her England teammates had walked into that pub and James finally got down on one knee and asked her "Gabrielle Southgate, will you marry me?" Gabby was in tears of joy as she simply nodded and James swept her up in his arms, kissing her fondly and slipping the claret blue ring on her left ring finger.

There was only two people who were angry James was marrying a muggle, Albus Dumbledore and James' ex-girlfriend Lily Evan's. Lily had thought he would eventually run back to her when she left Severus only to see him with another girl and more happy with her, then proposing to her. Albus, on the other hand, had also assumed he would run back to Lily and was furious with a normal non-magical girl marrying a high level lord in their world. He would find a solution in time to get rid of Miss Southgate so James married Lily.
