Sincerely, Skye: Chapter One- Drops of Jupiter.

Dear Blake,

Blake, you’re my best friend in the whole world. We’ve been through it all, and closer than two peas in a pod the whole time- seven years to be exact. I can’t count the memories that we’ve shared. Remember the time I nearly pushed you out of the tree house? You shouldn’t have insulted my new shoes- they had feelings you know. Just because they were pink! Can you believe it? We’ve done a lot of growing up a lot these past years.

I still remember the day we first met. You were ten, and I was a year younger. My family had just moved into the neighborhood, and you turned up at our doorstep, a plate of homemade cookies in hand, standing by a woman. I assumed that she was your mother at the time- you both had the same bright blue eyes and facial structure. My mom started talking to yours, and we made our way to my new backyard- that was complete with a swing set and everything! We began swinging and playing together, and our friendship blossomed.

Now I’m trying to figure out why you left me. Why did you leave? I know things weren’t great at home, but you’re so strong. You left me without any goodbye, and I have no idea where you could be. I wish I could find you, but you and I both know that it’s impossible. I should have realized something was up when you didn’t talk to me much on Friday, but silence with us is always comfortable, so I didn’t suspect anything..

Blake, you had it so much worse than I did, but you never failed to put a smile on my face, and you always wore one on yours. We all love you so much. I don’t understand how you could leave so easily, well, maybe I do… you certainly had a reason. You’re still my best friend, bud- don’t expect that to change any time soon. Where are you, though? Why didn’t you say goodbye? Were you afraid I’d talk you out of it? Were you really that desperate to get away from here?

Maybe if I had told you sooner… maybe you’d still be here. I miss you so bad, best friend. I hope I get to see you soon. You know where I am if you want to, you know, contact me or something. I really hope you’re doing okay wherever you are. It’s probably way better than here, huh? Well, mom’s calling me to dinner- don’t suspect I’ll eat much, but I know that’s not what you’d want, so I’ll try to force some down. I promise. For you.

Miss you, buddy. Wish you were here!

Sincerely,

Skye

Chapter One:

“Skye,” Blake said, his voice warning. We stood in the tree house, and by the expression on his face I could tell he knew I was furious. He’d made fun of my new shoes, and I wasn’t quite happy with him at the moment. For a second I glared at the wall of the house, at the pictures we’d put up. One of them had been drawn for me by Blake, and it made me smile whenever I saw it. He’d drawn it about four years ago- when we first met. Now he was fourteen, and I thirteen. The drawings held my eyes, and stepped to touch it. Hard to believe it had been four years already. I felt a gentle hand rest on my shoulder and looked up at him smiling.

I ran my fingers along the gnarled wood that held up the house. It was simple, durable enough, protected from rain, with windows that opened and closed, letting enough light in. Down below the tree was a river where we spent many days playing, “Remember this?” I asked, picking up the drawing. It was of a enchanted horse jumping over the moon. A laugh escaped my lips, causing Blake to smile his crooked smile and glide over to the window looking down on the river, to pick up another picture, one that I’d drawn.

The detail of the drawing was amazing, and I remembered this as a drawing I'd worked hard on. A girl brandishing her long hair while she danced at a party. The emerald dress she wore was identical to one I’d seen in my dream. “This is one of my favorites,” he said, his sapphire eyes gazing into mine, almost longingly. I could feel my face flush, so I turned away and went to pin the drawing of his back on the wall.
