"Im going by Ruben now." Ruby said making Rose snort as he tried to explain him liking his non-related cousin

"Ruby! Are you forgetting something?" Ruby's mom came out with her arms crossed followed by a girl walking behind her "Guys this is Olivia she's staying with us for a while, Kay?" And with that she was off and Olivia stood awkwardly in-front of the group.

The group stood in silence staring at the girl....some more than others.

"Is it me or did things just get weird?" Olivia said making Monse speak up

"It's you I'm Monse, this is Jamal, Cesar and Rose." She introduced Rose giving her a small wave as the boys awkwardly stared harder.

"Ignore the stares they haven't been neutered." Rose said making Olivia laugh

Monse pulled Ruby to the side, leaving Rose with the airheads that tried to catch Olivia's attention.

Rose rolled her eyes at Cesar's attempt to show off his abs and yanked his shirt down, scolding him. Jamal began to tell a joke which Olivia chuckled at placing a hand on his shoulder and Cesar's.

"I'm saving Cesar!" Ruby blurted our making the rest face him.

Latrelle and Rose now say in a burger shop, sharing fries and laughing about their day. The waitress seemed more handsy then normal with Latrelle, placing her hand on his shoulder and trying to make up jokes which Latrelle laughed at under his breath.

"So if it matters to you I'd like to order now." Rose said clearly irritated, shooting daggers to her

"Yeah? Whatchu want?" She popped her gum as Rose read off the menu, when she walked away it was clear Rose wasn't happy and Latrelle knew automatically

"What's up with you?" He asked trying to grab her hand but Rose forced it away

"Ima go flirt with someone and come back and see how you feel." Rose rolled her eyes as Latrelle started to laugh, sitting back

"You're so cute when you're jealous." He said reaching for her hand again to which she didn't pull away

"I'm not jealous I just would like it more if you didn't entertain every female that walked the block." Rose rolled her eyes as the waitress came back, eyes already focused on Latrelle

"I love your hair." The waitress now reached for it making Latrelle dodge it.

"Only my girl touches my hair." He said not paying anymore attention to the waitress than he needs to.

The two ate for the night and afterwards Latrelle walked her home, making sure she was safe.

"You be safe." Rose said as they now stood outside her house

"I'm always safe it's you that needs to be safe, especially hanging around a bum ass Santos." Latrelle now wrapped his jacket around Rose's shoulder

"Hey what did we say?"

"I know I know, no talking about ya goofy ass friends." He said chuckling giving her a small kiss goodbye

As Rose watched Latrelle leave she caught sight of Olivia watching the whole thing from Ruby's porch.

"Hey Olivia." She waved

"Sorry to be staring you two just seem like you care about each other a lot, it kinda made me want something like that." Olivia admitted as they talked now on Ruby's porch

"Yeah but we're not exclusive so I would appreciate if you not mention that to Monse,....or Cesar....or Jamal."

"Hey your secret is safe with me." She said now walking into her house

"I did it! It's done!" Ruby said as Jamal was explaining how he thinks his neck might be broken from the fake brace he put around it.

"Are you serious?" Jamal asked as Ruby went on about how Oscar was surprisingly chill.

"I'll still never understand why we sent him to talk you out of a gang instead of me." Rose said making Monse laugh

"Because you'll end up punching Oscar and that won't end well for you, but it's okay we're working on it." Jamal said patting her shoulder

"Yeah you did it, you got me promoted." Cesar said making everyone's face drop "I just got a text saying ima start selling for the Santos."

"No no no this can't be happening." Ruby pleaded

"It's okay I don't blame you...I blame Monse."

"Me?" Monse now looked shocked, Jamal and Rose sharing a look

"Yeah you're the instigator and the freaking honey badger you don't know when to stop. We're done." Cesar said

"So is Ruben I'm not man enough to bare that name." Ruby's head hung low as Rose now placed a hand on Ruby's shoulder

"Aw buddy If it helps...we were never going to call you Ruben." Rose said as Jamal tried to cheer him up, walking to the tables and leaving Monse and Cesar alone.

Rose, Jamal and Cesar now sat in English class as different thoughts rambled through each persons head. How was Jamal going to tell his dad he didn't want to play football? How was Cesar going to convince Monse to stop trying? How was Rose going to tell her friends she's dating Latrelle who robbed them everyday and lived on the Prophets part of the hood?

"Are you okay? You've seemed tense lately." Jamal whispered taking off the neck brace

"To be honest no, but I'll figure it out eventually. I always do." she said not meeting his gaze

"If it's a secret please refrain from telling me, I don't need anymore distractions."

Rose gave Jamal a sideways look and scoffed, "Wow what a great friend you are."

Rose now sat on the edge of her bed contemplating everything that's going on. Cesar was part of the Santos. Latrelle and her were sneaking around. And she was missing her parents more than ever. Her mom would know how to help, she always did. Her dad would probably try to kill Latrelle for being in his daughter's bed.

Rose now felt tears begin to stream her face, she wanted it to stop. She wanted the whole world to go on pause for just a second so that she could just breathe.

"Hey Rose mi abuela needs someone to wear her dr-" Ruby barged in with fabric expecting to see his always smiling friend but instead was met with a girl wrapped in pain and confusion. "Hey hey hey what's wrong?" he said coming to her aid

"I'm fine I just needed a moment." Rose tried to gather herself quickly but failed when she was engulfed in a hug by Ruby

"Rose, tell me what happened."
