Forward; One long author's note

Hello and welcome! Before I begin this story, I would just like to explain a few things first (things that are essential to the story, I promise!)

First of all, this is a gaslamp fantasy more than it is a steampunk novel. Gaslamp fantasy is just basically fantasy and steampunk squished together into a genre of both magic and cogs and gears. That's the short answer anyway. (I'm sure someone can explain it better, but that's just how I, specifically, define it.)

Second, I would just like to say that I did make the cover art for this book and it features the main character of this story.

Third, I just wanted to point out that this story takes place in a world AFTER the events of a high fantasy world-- meaning that it is a world that has begun to progress in technology and leave its old ways of castles and dragon-slaying behind.

I had always wondered if high fantasy worlds ever progressed technologically, or if they stayed in their respective 'era' forever. Did they ever invent anything or were they content to stay in their realm of swords and armor? Would technology ever progress beyond that point? Or how would a high fantasy world change over time and how would its technology look since they have things like magic? All these questions led me to writing this book (well, THAT and I wanted to try writing steampunk for the first time).

Finally, I made some character art for my three main characters-- which I hope you

So, assuming that people even READ the author's notes nowadays, I would like to close by giving you all a special thank you, whether it's to those who read Darksteel, stuck around for Bonesteel, or have even been here since Thieves' Game, thank you. And a thank you as well to any reader who might be new (and who probably wants me to stop yammering on and get on with the book), again, thank you and I hope you enjoy this story. Happy reading!
